Rodgers confirms defensive duo are still out

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that defensive duo Daniel Agger and Mamadou Sakho will miss Saturday’s game with Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of his team’s top of the table clash with Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the match will be too soon for the injured pair.

Agger, who has been out since picking up an injury in the FA Cup win over Oldham last month is still struggling to overcome his calk injury, whilst Sakho is still struggling with the hamstring strain he picked up against Chelsea back in December.

Without the pair Liverpool’s defensive options have been tested severely, they are also without Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique who are both suffering with longterm injuries.

Rodgers said “Daniel and Mamadou are not far off, but I’m not expecting to have either of them back for the weekend,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

“They are not back in full training yet. Daniel will be back at some stage next week so he’s progressing really well.

“But Sakho is still a bit away from coming back training.”

Liverpoo need to get their best two centre backs fit as the club chase a return to The UEFA Champions League.
