Edin Dzeko rumoured to be moving to Arsenal

Arsenal are looking to sign Edin Dzeko from Manchester City. Arsene Wenger is well aware of the fact that he needs more power in his team. A top 3 finish has only boosted the morale of the team and Wenger would be vying to be a title contender next season and hence, is building up his arsenal with strong players.

Dzeko, who has been named Bosnian Footballer of the Year 3 times in a row now, seems to be on top of Arsenal’s target list at the moment. The Emirates chief thinks that the team is heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud up front, while Welbeck is suffering from a knee injury.

Arsenal are well-stocked as far as the midfield is concerned and can use Theo Walcott and Oxlade Chamberlain as additional forwards. However, both players are prone to injury and it is necessary to have more options.

With a string of successful years at the age of 29, Dzeko is being pursued by Roma, but the Bosnian wants to stay in the English Premier League.

He was former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini’s 9th signing but has not enjoyed a regular place despite having a good strike rate. The arrival of Raheem Sterling and the possibility Kevin De Bruyne is also joining soon would make it even more difficult for him.

Wenger has always loved a big striker going back to the days of Emmanuel Adebayor and Nicklas Bendter. He has denied interest in Real Madrid’s Karim Benezma but admitted that he was willing to pay an “exceptional amount” on a player to take the club forward.

In other news, Talksport says Arsenal are also apparently targeting Yoann Gourcuff, who has been released by Lyon. Gourcuff, who like Dzeko is also 29 years old, is a free agent after leaving Lyon at the end of his contract.

A move back to Bordeaux was likely but the French club seems to be against the idea now. Liverpool and Manchester City appear to be greatly interested in him.

In other contradictory reports, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis suggested that Arsenal won’t be active again in the transfer window for this season. During an interview with Straits Times, Gazidis said: “We definitely have the quality in our squad to compete and win the league.”
