Crystal Palace Vs Liverpool Preview | Team News, Stats & Key Men

On October 29th, Crystal Palace will be hosting Liverpool at Selhurst Park.  Winless in their last three matches, Palace will be looking to turn their recent run of form around with Liverpool coming to town. Liverpool on the other hand are in fine form. But it is the inconsistency of the Premier League that make websites that make wagering on the internet possible, you certainly wouldn’t bet against Benteke turning up against his old club. They have won seven of their last eight matches and haven’t lost since their 2-0 defeat to Burnley back in August.  Jurgen Klopp’s side is looking like they could legitimately compete for the title and they’ll know if they want to win the league they’ll need to win games like this one.

Team News

Palace have a few injuries they will continue to deal with.  Christian Bentke is fit, but his brother Jonathan Benteke is still out until January with a knee injury, according to Physioroom.com.  Papa Souare is also out long term as he’ll be out until around April with a broken leg.  Loic Remy and Jason Puncheon both look set to be fit before the new year, but will both miss out against Liverpool.

Liverpool have the majority of their squad fit.  While he had to leave the EFL Cup match with injury this week, Jurgen Klopp has relieved injury concerns about Divock Origi saying he came off because of cramp and not something more serious.

Interesting Statistics

  • Liverpool have won only one of their last five Premier League matches against Crystal Palace.  Their win last March was Liverpool’s first win against Crystal Palace since before the 3-3 “Crystalbul” game at the end of the 2013/2014 season.
  • Liverpool have scored the joint most goals in the Premier League this season, with their 20 goals through nine matches matched only by Manchester City.  Liverpool are the only team with more than two players to have scored four or more Premier League goals so far this season.
  • No one has scored more headed goals in the Premier League this season than Crystal Palace with six.  Half of those six headed goals have come from former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke.

Key Players

Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke

Crystal Palace have struggled with goals for a few seasons now, but they may have found their solution up front this summer with Benteke.  Palace signed the Belgian striker from Liverpool on a deal that could reportedly reach £32m.  So far he has paid dividends.  He has scored three non penalty goals in a mere 623 minutes so far for Palace, according to Squwaka.com.  After being a horrible fit for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, Benteke fits in perfectly with the quick, cross-heavy system of Crystal Palace.  Liverpool’s biggest weakness this season has been on set pieces and Benteke could run riot against them on Saturday.

Liverpool: Sadio Mane

Mane was Liverpool’s big summer signing, and while many Liverpool fans were underwhelmed, he has fit in to this Liverpool system perfectly.  The former Southampton man has scored four non penalty goals in 717 minutes, according to Squwaka.com, and he doesn’t even play up top.  He has been a key part of the aforementioned balanced attack of Liverpool this season.  To show his impact, Mane is tied for the team lead in shots inside the penalty area so far this season.

Prediction

Liverpool have been fantastic this season, and while Palace usually cause them some problems, they’ll likely breeze through this.  Liverpool have taken the most shots in the league this season and conceded the fewest.  That’s generally a good way to win football matches, and Liverpool should continue to do so on Saturday.

Prediction: 3-1 Liverpool
