How Is NAVI Translated?

NAVI is the most famous group in CS:GO, and matches with them always get the most viewers. But do you know what NAVI stands for? It actually came about by accident, but people liked it so much that it stuck around for years.

The name was thought up by Daniel (Zeus) and (John) Edward after they watched the movie Avatar. In the film, “Na’vi” was the name of the alien race. Daniel and John liked how “Na’vi” sounded, so they suggested it as the name of their group. Before that, it was called Arbalet.UA. In the movie, “Na’vi” means “people” in the alien language, but Zeus and Edward didn’t really think about that when they picked the name.

When the team started doing well internationally, people wanted to know what NAVI stood for. So, the organization, along with HLTV, had a contest to find the best name related to NAVI.

The phrase “Natus Vincere” was suggested by a person named Bruno Hartik from Portugal. It’s Latin and means “Born to win”. This perfectly describes the team’s success because they won 3 major tournaments in a year.

Na’vi’s achievements in major tournaments:

  • 1/4 final of ESL One Cologne 2016
  • 2nd place MLG Columbus 2016
  • 2nd place DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015
  • 1/4 final of ESL One Cologne 2015
  • 1/4 final of ESL One Katowice 2015
  • 3rd place DreamHack Winter 2014
  • 1/4 final of ESL One Cologne 2014
  • Group stage EMS One Katowice 2014
  • DreamHack Winter 2013 Group Stage

Here are the players who were part of the Na’vi team:

  • Egor “markeloff” Markelov
  • Arseniy “ceh9” Trinozhenko
  • Anton “kibaken” Kolesnikov
  • Sergey “starix” Ishchuk
  • Daniil “Zeus” Teslenko
  • Mikhail “Dosia” Stolyarov (substitute for ESL Pro League: Winter 2014/15)
  • Martin “STYKO” Stiko (substitute for CEVO Season 7)

Here’s the current lineup for Natus Vincere:

  • Valery ‘b1t’ Vakhovsky
  • Alexi ‘Aleksib’ Virolainen
  • Justinas ‘jL’ Lecavicius
  • Ivan ‘iM’ Mihai
  • Andrey ‘B1ad3’ Gorodensky (coach)

Who Are We? Born to Win

The words “Natus Vincere” were part of the old team logo for NAVI until 2020, when they changed their logo a bit. But even though the logo changed, the CS:GO players still use it in their chant before games. Someone shouts out, “Who are We?” and the entire team shouts back loudly: “Born to Win.”
