Incredible Mohamed Salah can become immortal by topping invincible Thierry Henry

A collective sigh of relief that could be heard well outside of Merseyside was released when Mohamed Salah committed to a new contract at Liverpool.

Following months of seemingly endless discussion regarding the Egyptian’s future, he finally brought an end to the speculation by penning fresh terms.

A standing among the greats at Anfield has already been secured, but there is still plenty for the prolific frontman to achieve.

Once multiple major honours have been collected, alongside prestigious individual prizes, then entries in the history books begin to take on greater importance.

Talismanic winger

Salah already boasts plenty of those, but will want even more before the day eventually comes where he’ll bid farewell to English football.

As defending champions, Premier League betting odds have Liverpool priced at 15/8 to successfully defend their domestic crown in 2025-26.

The ongoing presence of Salah in Arne Slot’s plans means that football odds across a wide variety of competitions – from the FA Cup to Champions League – will continue to be weighted in the Reds’ favour.

If Liverpool can keep their talismanic winger fit, then there is every reason to believe that more major silverware will fall within reach.

Salah has grown accustomed to leading from the front when it comes to trophy tilts, and now positively revels in that role.

His quite remarkable record at Anfield has seen some stunning numbers posted.

He has never fallen below 23 goals in any given campaign with Liverpool, with the 30-goal mark being broken on four separate occasions.

Those exploits have helped Salah to four Golden Boots – with said prizes secured in 2017-18, 2018-19, 2021-22 and 2024-25.

He has reached 186 Premier League goals in total, leaving him 74 efforts short of Alan Shearer’s all-time record.

The man sitting proudly at the top of that chart has said of potentially being chased down: “I don’t suspect that my Premier League goalscoring record is on Mo Salah’s mind, but the record is going to go one day and whoever it goes to, I guess there’s so many ifs and buts.”

While Shearer may be out of reach for Salah, given that he has only committed to two more seasons at Liverpool, other modern day icons can be chased down.

He has already pulled level with Arsenal great Thierry Henry on the Golden Boot front.

Nobody, from Shearer to Sergio Aguero via Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, has ever won five Premier League top scorer gongs.

Superhuman feats

Given how notoriously difficult the English top-flight is for fresh faces to master, Salah has an achievement in his sights that promises to stand the test of time.

He has two years in which to try and top the charts once more – but it would come as a surprise to nobody if he only requires one.

Feats of the seemingly superhuman have become par for the course when Liverpool’s ‘Egyptian King’ is involved.

Salah’s achievements to date mean that he already occupies the incredible category, but he would become immortal if surging beyond ‘Invincible’ Henry and making more Premier League history.
