Manchester United’s Pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo Heats Up

Manchester United have made a significant step in their summer transfer business with an improved offer for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic. The new proposal, worth £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons, marks United’s third bid for the Cameroon international as they intensify their efforts to land a key attacking target.

Mbeumo’s Commitment to United

Mbeumo has made no secret of his desire to join Manchester United. According to Ornstein, the 25-year-old informed both Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur of his intention to move to Old Trafford should a transfer materialise this summer.

“He notified Tottenham and Brentford that should he depart the Gtech Community Stadium now, it will be for Old Trafford,” the report states. This clarity from the player’s side places United in a strong position during negotiations, though Brentford are standing firm on their valuation.

United’s earlier offers – £45 million plus £10 million, followed by £55 million plus £7.5 million in bonuses – were both rejected. Brentford are understood to want more than the £62.5 million United paid for Matheus Cunha from Wolves earlier this summer.

Brentford’s Stance and Mbeumo’s Contract Situation

Brentford hold some leverage with Mbeumo still under contract, including an option to extend by an additional 12 months. However, with the forward keen to leave and a sizeable bid now on the table, the West London club may be nearing a decision point.

Having joined from French side Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo has steadily developed into one of the Premier League’s most consistent wide forwards. Last season was his most productive to date – 20 goals and eight assists – playing a key role in Brentford’s 10th-place finish.

Tottenham’s Interest Unrewarded

Tottenham Hotspur were also admirers of Mbeumo, particularly following the arrival of former Brentford boss Thomas Frank at Spurs. However, their interest appears to have hit a dead end, with Mbeumo making it clear he sees his future in Manchester.
