Chelsea’s pursuit of Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has entered a critical phase. As revealed by Football Insider, the Blues have launched a cash-plus-players offer for the 23-year-old playmaker, believed to include Nicolas Jackson and Tosin Adarabioyo. It is a bold strategy for a player who has quickly become one of the most talked-about talents in English football.
Sources told Football Insider that “Chelsea have offered two stars in a cash-plus-players exchange bid for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.” It is clear from the report that Rogers is now “their top target for the remainder of the summer transfer window.”
Villa’s stance remains clear. Rogers is not for sale. The club have told Chelsea and other Premier League suitors that they value the former Middlesbrough man at over £100million and are “very reluctant to let him go.” Football Insider’s earlier report on 8 July confirmed that Villa are “desperate” to keep Rogers despite the obvious financial upside.
Emery’s Faith in Jackson Could Be Key
Interestingly, the situation is complicated by Villa’s own interest in one of Chelsea’s offered players. Football Insider revealed on 30 June that “Emery is pushing for Villa to sign Jackson” and that “preliminary talks have already begun.”
Unai Emery is a known admirer of Jackson. According to Football Inseider, “the boss is a big fan of Jackson and sees him as having the potential to develop into an elite Premier League forward with the right guidance.” Jackson’s raw pace, intelligent runs and growing maturity have certainly caught the attention of top-flight managers.
Maresca Clears Out as Chelsea Balance Books
Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca is undertaking a radical overhaul of his squad. As part of their summer restructure, Football Insider reports that Chelsea are launching “a fire sale at Stamford Bridge” and aim to offload fringe players in order to stay within UEFA’s financial limits.
Tosin Adarabioyo is among those available, having fallen out of favour under Maresca, although he still has interest from clubs like West Ham and Crystal Palace.
Yet, this calculated release of assets is also a necessity. “The Blues are currently under UEFA sanctions, and must balance out their transfer outlay with player sales to register new signings for the Champions League.”
Villa’s Dilemma and Chelsea’s Calculated Gamble
Villa now face a dilemma. Chelsea’s offer may be tempting, not just financially but because it potentially solves two squad-building needs in one move. However, Rogers has become central to the club’s vision under Emery, and his potential still feels untapped.
Despite interest from Manchester City and Arsenal, Villa “have previously insisted he is not for sale.” That stance will now be stress-tested to its limit.

As a Villa supporter, this feels like validation of just how good Morgan Rogers has become in such a short space of time. Chelsea offering not one but two players and cash shows how serious they are, but we can’t afford to let Rogers go just yet. He’s only 23, he’s settled, and under Emery, he’s clearly thriving. His potential to be a talisman in claret and blue is something we’ve not seen since the days of prime Jack Grealish.
That said, the interest in Jackson is intriguing. If Unai Emery sees something in him, I trust that vision. Jackson has flashes of brilliance but has been inconsistent. Maybe a different environment could bring the best out of him. Tosin adds Premier League experience too, but swapping Rogers for two players who didn’t quite cut it at Chelsea feels risky. Especially when Rogers could be worth even more by this time next year.
Letting him go now, when we’ve already fought off City and Arsenal, would feel like a step back. Unless the offer becomes unignorable, Villa must stay strong. Rogers is our future, not Chelsea’s fix.
