The stage is (almost) set: on the 20th of September, a big match will grace the Premier League’s enthusiasts: at Old Trafford, Manchester United will face Chelsea in a match-up between two possible contenders for the league title. The game will close a difficult week for the Red Devils, who lost against the Citizens last Sunday and are now eyeing another hard clash.
The match is sure to be interesting and packed with excitement for football fans. This is a fiery rivalry. For online players, it will also be an excellent opportunity to take advantage of promotions from major online platforms, such as the Oddschecker comparison site. In which form are the two teams?
Manchester United will host Chelsea. The Red Devils are not in top shape. The team hoped that Rúben Amorim could change the culture after some less-than-brilliant seasons with Erik ten Hag at the helm. The Portuguese tried to mold the team after his ideas and vision but the results haven’t been too good. Man Utd won only a match in the Premier League, during the August stint, against Burnley. Chelsea seems to play better. Enzo Maresca won the Club World Cup this summer and put together a team that can dominate on offense, as shown against West Ham United, but is really inconsistent other times, for example at Brentford, where a late equaliser by Fabio Carvalho set the final on 2-2.
Neither team is in top shape, as it is to be expected in mid-September. The season is long and, between the league and the European competitions, both sides will have their hands full. The Blues are slightly better in this phase and are the favourites to win the clash at Old Trafford, but we should not underestimate the Red Devils’ pride. Winning against Chelsea could mean a new beginning for them and bring some enthusiasm back to supporters that haven’t been happy since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
A parade of superstars
The sheer level of talent in this game will be a showing of the Premier League’s superpower among European national championships. Each country hosts some powerhouses, of course, and those teams are the ones that usually win the league or compete for it until the very last gameday, but in England there are several excellent teams.
At Old Trafford, on Saturday evening, we will see Matthijs De Ligt, Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Joshua Zirkzee playing with a red jersey, while players like Enzo Fernández, Cole Palmer, João Pedro and Alejandro Garnacho will wear blue. There are some quite talented players on the two teams and that could mean that we are about to witness an intense and fierce clash. We sure hope so.
High levels of star power don’t always mean good games, obviously, but when the ingredients are that good, the cake is sure to be quite tasty. A particularly motivated lad, on that pitch, will be the Argentinian Garnacho.
He played in Manchester last year, with United, and is today part of Chelsea’s team. Interviewed by The Mirror, the forward didn’t speak positively of his experience under Amorim and chose not to train with the Red Devils during the summer, having asked for a transfer. The move arrived in the last days of the window, with Chelsea offering 40 million pounds for his services. Garnacho has still to play his first minutes with the Blues and is eager to show his old teammates – some of which criticised him in the last months – and their gaffer, his true value. The South American would love to score his first goal against United on Saturday.
