“Yes, absolutely. I think as each game goes on from here, the pressure will mount until he is let go. You look at the number of games he has been in charge for in the Premier League and this is relegation form. And every other team with this record, would have probably sacked the manager by now.”

“So, he is a likeable coach, the fans are on side still it seems, but you have to improve on the pitch. You have to come out and hold your hands up and change formation. It really isn’t working at all and I think the players feel it. There are no legs in midfield and Man Utd are getting overrun in many games. I would really go back to basics and then start over with 4 at the back and be hard to beat. Then you have the quality up front to score goals.”

It is a blunt but fair assessment from a man who knows what it takes to represent Manchester United. Amorim’s preferred tactical system, while brave and modern, has left the team exposed. The midfield has often been bypassed, leaving the defence vulnerable and forcing the forwards to feed on scraps. Parker’s suggestion to simplify things may sound old school, but in a crisis, simplicity can be a manager’s best friend.

“They dare lose this one and I think it will be tough to survive. You have the international break coming up and I think the football side of the club will be looking at options as this season they have to improve on last year.”

“You have to learn from mistakes and rectify them but it seems that these aren’t being done and the sloppy goals being conceded still happen. Sunderland won’t be afraid of playing their game and attacking Man utd and with Xhaka in midfield bossing the game, it will be a tough watch for Man Utd, unless they really improve as a team.”

“You can’t change all the players, so it starts with the manager and it results don’t improve before the international break, then it’s looking unlikely he will stay. You have to look at the formation and see it’s not working as there are too many gaps appearing at stages of games where Man Utd should be looking to dominate, but are up against it and losing possession and conceding chances.”

“So unless Amorim will change the formation, so the players are more comfortable, I find it hard to see things changing as it is.”
