Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has ended 2025 having enjoyed one of the best runs of results for his side since arriving at the club in November 2024. In the final months of the calendar year, they lost just two of their 13 Premier League matches.

Amorim can be optimistic of further improvement in 2026, and with many of their rivals proving inconsistent this season, United may be on course for a return to the Champions League at the end of the campaign.
No European Football Is Helping United
The group stages of the leading European competitions have caused a few headaches for some managers in the Premier League, as they have had to manage a busy schedule of fixtures. Amorim has had no such problem, as he has been able to focus on the Premier League.
United begin their FA Cup campaign against Brighton on the 11th of January, and they are the 4/6 favourites according to the bet on football games odds at Paddy Power. Along with the Premier League, those are the only competitions United remain involved in this season.
In the Premier League title betting, United are as big as 500/1, as it would take a huge turnaround in the second half of the season to close the deficit on the league leaders. Amorim spent most of his summer transfer budget on attacking players to bolster his squad, and it is clear they have improved United going forward. Bryan Mbuemo has scored six Premier League goals in 16 games and, although he does not have the returns just yet, Matheus Cunha has shown signs of being a real threat.
After making so many changes to his starting XI from last season, time was always going to be needed for Amorim’s players to gel. Now that they are settled into their manager’s system, their performances could continue to improve in the second half of the season.
Amorim may get the chance to strengthen his squad further before the transfer window closes on the 2nd of February. If he can bring one or two quality players, it may give them extra impetus to push for a top-four finish.
Happier Squad Morale
Positive results have helped shape the morale of the squad at Manchester United, but Amorim also deserves a lot of credit for offloading players he believed were bringing down the harmony at the club. Many left on permanent transfers back in the summer, while others were given loan moves, including Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, and those are likely to be made permanent in the future.
The United players who remain at the club are now playing with smiles on their faces, and that is a good sign moving forward. For United to have success on the pitch, Amorim must continue to have the backing of his players.
With lots of football still to be played this season, Amorim can get United back alongside the leading clubs in the Premier League. If results continue to improve, the club’s backing of their manager will prove to be the right decision.
