The Premier League has its three new faces for the 2026/27 campaign: Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City.
Coventry City finished first in the EFL Championship under manager Frank Lampard and are back in the Premier League for the first time in a quarter of a century. Ipswich Town are returning at the first attempt. Hull City ended a nine-year exile as well.
None of these teams wants relegation next year. They’re all back in the Premier League, and they’ll fight to stay there. But what do they actually bring to the league?
Looking Back at Last Season
Coventry had a very successful 2025/26 season in the EFL Championship. They ended up finishing the league with 95 points, which was actually 11 points ahead of second-place Ipswich Town.
During their season, they had an impressive 7-1 win against Queens Park Rangers. Carl Rushworth, their main goalkeeper, also kept a clean sheet for 16 consecutive games, which says enough about him and the squad.
Ipswich secured an automatic promotion with a second-place finish. Despite having some key players leave before the 2025/26 season, Kieran McKenna showed us why Ipswich deserves a spot in the Premier League.
Hull really had to fight for their Premier League spot, but they did it nonetheless. They got promoted by winning the Championship lay-offs. Regardless, they managed to push through even under the pressure.
What They Bring to the Premier League
Coventry arrive with momentum, a settled and well-drilled squad, and the ex-player manager, Lampard, looking to rebuild his reputation.
Ipswich are driven by continuity, and McKenna, a young coach, is looking to prove his worth. They had a slip in the 2024/25 season, which led to a demotion, but now they’re back in the Premier League, and they’re looking to stay.
Hull feels like they’re bringing a whole wave of feel-good energy. McBurnie has proven to be a Championship goalscorer as well, so we’re looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table.
All of them bring more eyes to the Premier League as well. This could ripple through the league and make sponsorship opportunities a little more favourable. More eyes just means better sponsorship deals for the clubs.
A gambling platform, such as sites offering slots with welcome bonus offers, could be a promising sponsorship opportunity for the club. Many of these clubs already have gambling sponsors or partners, and if they’re able to get more eyes on them, it could mean better deals for the clubs.
How Will They Perform?
All three face a difficult season. Coventry looks the best to compete, by far. Their EFL Championship win provides them with the confidence they need to continue dominating as well.
Ipswich are looking okay, but they’re not in the best position. They fear relegation, which could either work for them or against them. Despite this, they did have a strong season last year, so hopefully they can continue that type of performance this year.
Hull are probably looking weakest, but they’ve surprised us in the past. The squad has the least time to prepare as well, so they’ll undoubtedly have a tough 2026/27 season.
Will They Stay Up?
Predicting promoted sides is difficult. They all got promoted, but the teams in the Premier League are on a totally different level when compared to Championship teams.
Coventry, by far, looks like they’ll perform well. However, we may be surprised about Ipswich and Hull; we’d just have to wait and see.
