As July makes way for August and the nights gradually start closing in, there’s a lot to be excited about. Not only will we soon get a break from the relentless warm and dry UK weather as ‘Spooky Season’ closes in, but more importantly, we’ll soon be treated to another season of Premier League football.
With the recent World Cup whetting the appetites of footy fans and sports bettors across the nation, bookmakers are gearing up for what could be their busiest season thus far.
With the Premier League now mere weeks away, (as of this writing) many will be wondering who will win the title. Will it be Arsenal, will City’s new gaffer get off to a flying start, or could we see an upset?
Here, bookmakers pick their 2026/27 Premier League top 4, and share a few outsider tips along the way.
Arsenal
Well, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that currently, before the season kicks off, it is the current title holders Arsenal, whom the bookies are tipping to retain their title.
According to Scs.ie, BetVictor, Paddy Power, and Bet365 all currently have the Gunners at 6/4 to win the trophy for a second consecutive year.
While their football last season was hardly the most exciting to watch, it was clearly effective and with Declan Rice getting some much-needed rest following the World Cup, if he comes in fresh next season, those set pieces could be pivotal.
Manchester City
Shock horror, it is currently Man City whom the bookies expect to give Arsenal their biggest run for their money, and from past experience, why wouldn’t they?
With Pep Guardiola departing for pastures new, the biggest question will be whether Enzo Maresca can continue to bring the best out of his players. With Haaland once again proving nothing phases him following 6 goals for Norway, and their best ever finish at the World Cup, if he stays fit, City will be ones to watch.

Liverpool
Another team who will be entering the 2026/2027 Premier League season with a new manager at the helm is Liverpool.

Liverpool may be without Salah, but with Gakpo putting in an unbelievable shift for the Netherlands at the World Cup, and bagging 3 goals and 1 assist from 4 appearances, they’ll be feeling confident.

Chelsea
Taking up the fourth spot for the top 4 picks, we have Chelsea.
Chelsea are always in with a great shout, ever since the days of Mourinho, though after splashing the cash during the summer, it’s clear they mean business.
Interestingly, they’ve been making a habit of signing and approaching players considered ‘older’, which could work out well for them, or could come back to bite them in the behind come next spring.
After approaching Sunderland and offering way under the odds for 33-year-old Granit Xhaka, (a move which was unsuccessful) they have recently signed Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck, whom have a combined age of 71. If it’s experience, maturity, and leadership they’re looking for however, well, let’s just say they’re in luck.

Sunderland (Outsiders)
So, we’ve covered the bookmaker’s top 4 teams tipped to challenge for the 2026/27 EPL title, but what about the teams with the juicier odds, who could potentially bag you some big bucks?
Well, based upon last season, and the fact that virtually every team at the World Cup seemed to have some sort of link to Sunderland in some form or another, our outsider pick is the Black Cats.
After a somewhat fortunate result against Sheffield United in the Championship playoff final for the 2024/25 season, many expected Sunderland to be the first team relegated in their first season back at the top in many years. Instead, they put on a series of exceptional performances, secured safety in no time at all, defeated Newcastle United twice, and even beat Chelsea to a spot in Europe.
With players like Brian Brobbey and Granit Xhaka both impressing massively in the World Cup, and with Big Dan Ballard (not Big Dan Burn) ready to go to war for his club, The Black Cats could do some serious damage if they can replicate last season’s form, plus a little something extra.
