The situation appears to be developing on multiple fronts. City are preparing for a major midfield reshuffle after Rodri became keen on a move to Barcelona, ahead of Real Madrid, following his latest international success with Spain. Supporters would probably see the appeal in a midfielder capable of progressing play quickly, arriving in advanced areas and still handling heavy possession demands. The phrase “fine season amid chaos at Stamford Bridge” stands out, because producing 16 goals and nine assists in that environment says plenty.
The concern is obvious too, and it starts with the price. Paying around £120m for a player Chelsea do not actively want to lose feels like a deal that could drag on and become complicated quickly. From a fan’s point of view, it would need absolute conviction from Maresca and the recruitment team.
