Everton Transfer News: David Moyes Wants More Signings Before Deadline

Everton’s summer rebuild remains very much a work in progress, with David Moyes making it clear that further additions are required before the transfer window closes.

Everton have already made changes, although Moyes was keen to place the club’s transfer activity into context.

“I’m pleased that the players were brought in. You have to remember, two of them were already here last year, so we’ve just made them permanent (Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl).

“I think it’ll take Hayden (Hackney) a little bit of time to adapt from the Championship to the Premier League, which quite often it does for players coming from the Championship.

“Christian (Norgaard) is very experienced and will help us replace Idrissa Gana (Gueye). Unfortunately, he’s injured at the moment, and Brennan’s (Johnson) just come in on the back of the swap deal for Dwight (McNeil).”

Hackney is perhaps the player who requires the greatest patience. Moving from the Championship into the Premier League remains a considerable jump, particularly for a midfielder expected to influence games immediately.

Norgaard brings proven Premier League experience, while Johnson provides another option in attacking areas.

Everton Still Facing Major Recruitment Push

The key point from Moyes is that Everton do not regard their business as complete.

“We’re putting things together, but we certainly feel behind the scenes that we’ve got a long way to go and want to do an awful lot more.”

That assessment places considerable importance on the remaining weeks of the window.

Everton have spent heavily, yet expenditure alone does not determine whether a transfer window has worked. Balance, depth and tactical suitability matter far more.

Moyes clearly believes his squad still requires additional reinforcement. Everton’s recruitment team now faces the challenge of finding those players without allowing the urgency of the deadline to dictate the quality of their decisions.
