The west London club want to reduce the size of Xabi Alonso’s squad, and Delap appears to be among the names who could leave before the window closes. From a Nottingham Forest supporter’s perspective, this feels like the sort of move worth getting excited about, provided the numbers make sense. Delap may not have delivered at Chelsea, but context matters. He went into a crowded attack, struggled for rhythm, and then saw his route blocked even further. That does not mean the talent has disappeared.

At Forest, the appeal is obvious. Oliver Glasner wants intensity, aggression and purpose in forward areas, and Delap has those traits. He is powerful, willing to run channels, and plays with an edge that supporters at the City Ground would take to immediately. A fresh environment can change everything for a striker, especially one who still has plenty to prove in the Premier League.

The £50m asking price sounds high based on last season’s return, so Forest fans would probably hope for a deal with better value, whether that is a lower fixed fee or a structure with add-ons. Still, the fact that talks are happening is encouraging. Forest are aiming upwards, and this is the profile of player they should be looking at, young enough to develop, hungry enough to respond, and good enough to raise the level of the squad.
