From a Manchester City supporter’s perspective, this report feels encouraging because there is a plan behind the noise. Losing Rodri is massive, and nobody sensible pretends otherwise, but if the answer is Bouaddi now and possibly Enzo Fernandez on top, then the midfield could end up with fresh legs and fresh hunger.

That is the bit that stands out most. City are not simply replacing bodies, they are trying to remake the team before decline sets in. Bouaddi for £86million shows huge belief. Fernandez would be a statement to the rest of the league. If both arrive as key midfield pieces, you can see the next cycle starting already.

Up front, there may be nerves if Savinho and Marmoush both go, especially if Grealish leaves too, but interest in Cody Gakpo is promising. He looks like the sort of forward who would fit a title race, someone reliable rather than flashy. Allan Elias adds another layer of excitement as well.

The only nagging issue is right-back. If that remains unresolved, better sides will try to target it. But overall, this sounds like a club moving with purpose.
