From a Man City fan’s point of view, this is the sort of story that comes with having top players. If Cherki starts the season like this, of course Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich are going to watch him. That is normal.

The encouraging part is that there is no sign City need to do anything here. He is tied down until 2030, he looks settled, and Maresca clearly trusts him. More importantly, supporters can already see why the club moved for him in the first place. He has that unpredictability City sometimes need in tight games, and his ability to drift inside or start wide gives the attack a different rhythm.

If someone turns up with €90m, or even more, it will make headlines, but City are under no pressure to sell. In truth, replacing this sort of profile would be difficult and probably expensive anyway. There is also a wider point, if a player is thriving in Manchester and the team are built around competing for the biggest honours, why rush into an exit?

Supporters will likely view this as recognition rather than a warning sign. If anything, it shows Cherki is doing exactly what City hoped he would do.
