Manchester United Injury Boost Ahead of Fulham Clash as Michael Carrick Seeks Response

Michael Carrick needs a result. That is the reality before Manchester United head to Craven Cottage to face Fulham on Sunday. One league win from the opening stretch is a poor return for a club with United’s expectations, and sitting 13th in the table puts the pressure exactly where you would expect, on the manager.

There is, however, some overdue good news on the injury front. Luke Shaw, Carlos Baleba and Matthijs de Ligt have all travelled with the squad, which gives Carrick options he has badly lacked in recent weeks. Whether all three start is another matter, but availability alone changes the conversation.

Luke Shaw return gives United balance

Shaw has missed the last three matches, including the defeat in the Manchester derby and the Carabao Cup exit against Brighton. His absence has forced United to improvise at left-back, with Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui both used to cover. Shaw played every Premier League game for United last season, so his return matters. He brings experience, structure and, most importantly, a natural fit in that role.

Carlos Baleba and Matthijs de Ligt close in

Baleba is yet to make his Manchester United debut after arriving with an ankle issue. The injury was never considered serious enough to halt the move, but it has delayed his first appearance. Now he is in the travelling group and could finally feature against Fulham. Given United’s lack of control in midfield at times, that would be significant.

De Ligt’s situation has dragged on even longer. He has been out since November with a persistent back problem and has not played at all this year. His inclusion in the squad suggests that wait may finally be over, and United could use his presence at the back.

Benjamin Sesko absence raises fresh concern

Not everything is positive. Benjamin Sesko has not travelled because of an injury concern, leaving Carrick light in attack. That opens the door for Matheus Cunha to lead the line again.

For Manchester United, this is simple. The return of Shaw, Baleba and De Ligt offers hope, but league position and recent form tell the real story. Carrick needs points, and quickly.
