Alex Scott Injury Leaves Bournemouth Facing Major Midfield Concern

Bournemouth have been dealt a significant injury concern after Alex Scott withdrew from the England squad with a quad problem that could reportedly keep him out for approximately two months.

According to The Athletic, the 23-year-old has returned to Bournemouth for further assessment after suffering the injury during England’s emphatic 7-0 victory over Croatia in Rijeka.

England Breakthrough Ends in Frustration

Scott made his first senior England start against Croatia, playing 70 minutes before James Garner replaced him. It had been another important step in his international development following his substitute appearance against Czech Republic.

Assessments remain ongoing, although the early expectation of a potentially lengthy absence represents worrying news for Bournemouth.

Scott had started all five of their Premier League fixtures this season, contributing one goal and one assist. His ability to receive possession under pressure, carry the ball through midfield and contribute further forward has made him an increasingly influential figure.

Bournemouth Schedule Adds Pressure

Marco Rose could now be without Scott during a demanding period. Bournemouth return from the international break with a trip to Chelsea on October 10 before hosting Sturm Graz in the Europa League five days later.

Scott’s potential absence also follows the loss of Eli Junior Kroupi, who underwent surgery on a foot injury in July and faces three to four months on the sidelines.

Having made 95 Bournemouth appearances since joining from Bristol City in 2023, Scott has developed into an important Premier League midfielder. His progress with England, following success with the Under-21s at the 2025 European Championship, emphasises that development.

Bournemouth will hope the forthcoming medical assessment provides a more encouraging prognosis.

Our View

From a Bournemouth supporter’s perspective, this is exactly the type of international break news you dread.

Scott has started the season strongly, and losing him for around two months would remove one of the midfield’s most technically accomplished players just as the fixture schedule becomes increasingly demanding.

There is also genuine frustration surrounding the timing. Scott had finally earned his first England start after years of progress through the international age groups. Playing 70 minutes in a 7-0 victory should have been an occasion to remember. Instead, Bournemouth supporters are waiting anxiously for medical updates.

His importance goes beyond one goal and one assist. Scott gives Bournemouth control in possession, carries the ball confidently and has the intelligence to connect midfield with the attacking players.

European football makes squad depth even more important. Chelsea away followed quickly by Sturm Graz at home illustrates the challenge facing Marco Rose.

Kroupi’s existing absence compounds the concern. Bournemouth can cope with injuries, but losing important players for months rather than weeks inevitably stretches resources.

Supporters will now be hoping the initial fears prove pessimistic. Scott’s development has gathered momentum, and a prolonged interruption would be deeply frustrating for Bournemouth and for a player beginning to establish himself at senior international level.
