Hull City Lead Deniz Dönmezer Race as January Transfer Talks Continue
Hull City are emerging as the strongest contenders to sign Deniz Dönmezer, with TeamTalk reporting that the Premier League club are pushing to finalise a deal for the highly rated Turkish goalkeeper in the January window.
The 18-year-old, currently with Kayserispor, has been tracked closely for some time and Hull are described as the side “closest to signing Deniz Dönmezer” as negotiations continue. A proposed four-and-a-half year contract is understood to be under discussion, with an option for a further 12 months. The package being worked on is said to be worth £1.5 million, plus a 10 per cent sell-on clause for Kayserispor.
There is still work to do before anything is completed. As reported, “No agreement is yet done and talks are ongoing.” That remains the key point at this stage, despite Hull’s strong positioning in the race.
Deniz Dönmezer Deal Structure Taking Shape
One detail of the talks could prove important to how this develops. Dönmezer may remain in Kayseri until the end of the season, allowing appearance-related bonuses to be activated. That sort of arrangement would suit all parties if a formal agreement can be reached, giving Hull City a pathway to secure the player while Kayserispor retain short-term flexibility.
Hull’s recruitment drive appears focused on youth, resale value and long-term planning. The report states that “Hull are working hard to find the best young talent as they look to establish themselves in the Premier League and build for the future.” In that context, Dönmezer fits the profile.

Turkish Goalkeeper Has Drawn Elite Attention
Dönmezer’s rise has been rapid. Born in 2008, he progressed through the system at Adana Demirspor and in May 2024 became the youngest goalkeeper to play in the Süper Lig. He then made more than 20 top-flight appearances before joining Kayserispor on a free transfer in September 2025.
His reputation had already spread well beyond Turkey. According to the report, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor were all monitoring him, while Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham were also said to have sent scouts. Ajax were considering a bid and Liverpool had been linked too.
The player’s own ambition is also clear. Dönmezer has “cited Manuel Neuer as his model” and has said “the Premier League is the competition he most wants to play in, citing its pace and intensity.”
Our View
From a Hull City perspective, this feels like exactly the kind of move supporters want to see. There is obvious risk in signing an 18-year-old goalkeeper, especially one who has recently been more of a reserve than a regular starter, but the upside is huge. If the club can bring in a talent who has already broken age records in Turkey and attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest sides, that says a lot about the level Hull are now trying to operate at.
The fee, at £1.5 million, also looks sensible in the modern market. For a Premier League club, that is a measured investment rather than a reckless one. If Dönmezer develops as hoped, Hull could have a first-team goalkeeper for years or an asset whose value rises sharply.
What stands out most is the strategy. This is not a short-term panic move. It sounds like targeted recruitment, with talks dating back to July and a contract structure that suggests real planning. Supporters should be encouraged by that.
There is still caution needed because “talks are ongoing” and deals involving young players can shift quickly. But if Hull can get this done, it would feel like a statement. It would show the club are serious about building smartly, looking beyond obvious domestic options and identifying elite potential before the rest of the market fully closes in.
