Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal injury blow ahead of Leeds United test

Arsenal Injury Update: Kai Havertz Doubtful for Leeds Clash with Leeds United

Arsenal head into Saturday’s meeting with Leeds United with a familiar problem, availability. Mikel Arteta has confirmed Kai Havertz is a major doubt, and that means another late fitness call before the lunchtime kick-off in north London.

The headline is simple enough. Havertz has avoided anything serious, but that does not guarantee he plays. He returned to the club two weeks ago for further checks and Arsenal are clearly not rushing him. Arteta said, “We had good communication with the England camp. Max is available. Ezri and Kai we will see tomorrow.”

Kai Havertz concern gives Arsenal late call

That leaves Havertz in limbo going into the Leeds game. Arsenal have had three weeks since the heavy defeat to Brighton, and Arteta would have wanted that break to clear the deck physically. It has helped in some areas, but not completely.

Max Dowman is fit and available. Ezri Konsa is less certain. He has been dealing with a dead leg and, while he has been back with the squad this week, there was no public sign of him in Thursday’s training footage. That usually tells you very little on its own, but the manager’s wording made the situation plain enough. Arsenal will decide late.

Defensive options improve before Leeds United test

There is better news in defence. Ben White is back after a groin problem, while Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie are both available. Arteta said, “Both available [Mosquera and Hincapie]” and added, “We decided not to use them in the Brighton game but they are available.”

That matters. Arsenal have looked stretched at times already this season, and getting numbers back gives Arteta room to be cautious with Konsa rather than forcing the issue.

Declan Rice fitness and Christos Tzolis blow

Declan Rice is another player Arsenal are trying to manage carefully. He pulled out of England duty during the international break and Arteta admitted there has been an ongoing physical issue. “We have to manage him because he’s had a few issues since he came back from the World Cup,” Arteta revealed. “Hopefully tomorrow he’s available.”

One player definitely out is Christos Tzolis. The winger has started all five Premier League matches this season, but a hamstring problem will sideline him for the next few weeks. Arteta was direct: “He has a muscle injury. He’s going to be out for a few weeks. He’s not available.”

So that is where Arsenal stand. Some reinforcements are back, some key names remain uncertain, and Havertz is the biggest question of all before Leeds arrive.
