Report: Liverpool and Arsenal in the race to sign Serie A star

Arsenal Transfer News: Emmanuel Lulli Emerges as Roma Wonderkid on Premier League Radar

Arsenal are among the clubs closely watching Roma full-back Emmanuel Lulli, with the 19-year-old now moving firmly into the conversation after an eye-catching breakthrough in Italy. According to TeamTalk, Liverpool, Chelsea and several other elite sides have also been alerted to the defender’s rapid rise.

The detail is significant. Scouts were initially focused on teammate Wesley, a player long admired in England, but Lulli has forced his way into reports through the quality of his own performances. TEAMtalk states that “Lulli’s performances have also stood out significantly, with scouts now urging their recruitment chiefs to take the young defender seriously as a potential target.” For Arsenal, that is the sort of language worth noting.

Emmanuel Lulli catching Arsenal interest

Lulli is described as an “elegant, six-foot full-back who offers quality at both ends of the pitch”. That profile alone will appeal to top-level recruitment departments, particularly at clubs placing increasing value on defenders who can progress play, cover space and adapt in possession-heavy systems.

He “made his first-team debut under Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini earlier this season” and is “increasingly viewed as an important part of the Italian club’s long-term plans.” Those close to the situation believe his growth has been swift enough to place him on a much bigger stage. Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs have reportedly all been advised internally that he is one to follow seriously.

There is wider competition too. TEAMtalk reports that “Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are also aware of Lulli’s rise through the Roma ranks”, while “European champions Paris Saint-Germain have also been impressed by Lulli’s emergence”. When that calibre of club circles a teenager, it usually reflects strong belief in both ceiling and trajectory.

Roma contract plan may shape transfer race

Roma are not passive here. The Italian club understand the level of attention building around their academy product and are already moving to protect themselves. TEAMtalk reveals that they are “already looking at tying Lulli down to a new contract as they look to protect his future and fend off potential interest from the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe.”

That is often the first key step in any developing transfer story. A new deal would strengthen Roma’s hand, increase any future valuation and give them greater control over timing. From Arsenal’s perspective, this looks more like close monitoring than an immediate move, but situations involving high-upside defenders can accelerate quickly once clubs decide the profile fits.

For now, Lulli remains a name to remember. Arsenal’s recruitment team will be well aware that a player who has gone from under-the-radar academy talent to serious Premier League interest in a short period usually has something substantial behind the hype.

Our View

From an Arsenal supporter’s perspective, this report feels believable because it fits the club’s recent transfer logic. The Gunners have repeatedly targeted young players with high technical levels, positional flexibility and room to develop into elite-level options. If Lulli really is an “elegant, six-foot full-back” with quality “at both ends of the pitch”, then he sounds like exactly the sort of talent Arsenal would want in the system early.

The big question is timing. Arsenal do not always move at the first sign of a breakout, especially when a player has only just reached senior level. There is often a preference to monitor longer, assess personality, consistency and tactical intelligence, then decide whether to act. That patience can be smart, although it also creates the risk of a bidding war once everyone is convinced.

What stands out in this report is the volume of interest. If Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG are all aware, then this could become expensive very quickly, particularly if Roma secure that new contract. That means Arsenal would need to be sure Lulli is more than a promising name, he would need to be a genuine long-term solution.

As a fan, there is encouragement in seeing Arsenal linked with another high-upside defender before the market gets crowded. Even if nothing happens soon, this is the sort of scouting work supporters want to hear about. Finding tomorrow’s top full-back before his price explodes is how top squads stay ahead.
