Exclusive: Former Man United Star Calls For Man City To Be Relegated After Premier League Charges

In one of the most controversial stories in sporting history, Manchester City have been found guilty of 115 financial charges.

The Citizens have already laid out their plans to appeal the decision, which is important to remember.

However, their historic success under Pep Guardiola is now tainted until their appeal is reviewed.

A number of serious punishments have been suggested, from stripping titles, to instant relegation, to even being kicked out of the English football league entirely!

But any decision like that currently feels like a decent amount of time away.

Former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe has spoke exclusively to EPL Index and has shared his thoughts on the situation…

Sharpe Calls For Relegation

Reacting to the news, Sharpe said: “Obviously, they are going to appeal and they’re saying it’s all false claims, so there are obviously two sides to every story. We’ve got to wait for that to come out.”

“But if what is stated is true, then I think there’s got to be a relegation.”

“When you look at the likes of Everton and the amount of points they were docked for what they did, and Forest as well, I think for this they’ve got to be relegated.”

“I don’t think a fine is really severe enough for these allegations and what they’re supposed to have been found guilty of.”

“I think there’s got to be a relegation. Whether that be, I don’t know whether they could do it, 100 or 200 points so they get relegated a couple of times before they can even try to get back, I’m not sure.”

“But this is going to be such a complicated case because of the investment they’ve put into Manchester, and it’s going to be interesting to watch it unfold.”

Man City’s Focus Remains On Anfield

Whilst all of this continues to rumble on in the background, attention now returns to real football. And to be honest, the script writers couldn’t have planned this better.

In Man City’s first game back after the guilty verdict, they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool – the side they allegedly cheated out of numerous titles.

This game is going to be massive. From this angle, but also the fact that Man City have won every Premier League game so far and sit top of the Premier League table.

It’ll be interesting to see if they can maintain that form with all of this outside noise…
