Maxi Araújo Transfer Latest, Why Arsenal and Manchester United Are Watching Closely

The latest noise around Maxi Araújo feels significant at first glance, particularly when Arsenal and Manchester United are attached to it, but the clearest update is actually a quieter one. According to Sports Witness, there is currently ‘nothing new’ in terms of immediate movement from either club, even though both continue to monitor the Sporting player.

That matters because transfer stories often accelerate on reputation alone. Mention a rising talent, add two elite Premier League names, and suddenly speculation takes on a life of its own. In this case, the reality appears far more measured. Interest remains, the admiration is real, but there is no fresh push and no sign that bids are imminent.

Arsenal and Manchester United keeping watch

Araújo has been on the radar for some time. Premier League clubs have tracked him since his move from Toluca to Sporting in 2024, and reports earlier this year placed a long queue behind him. Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea were credited with making early approaches, and a wider list of English clubs followed.

Even so, Sporting did what well-run clubs aim to do when a player’s stock rises quickly. They protected their position. On August 3, Araújo signed a new deal until 2030, and that immediately changed the tone of the conversation. Sporting had already placed a valuation of €45m to €50m on him, while his release clause stood at €80m, and the improved contract only reinforced their leverage.

That is why the latest suggestion of Arsenal and Manchester United preparing €65m bids should be treated carefully. The key line remains that there is ‘nothing new’ and that there have been no developments since both clubs first showed interest months ago.

Sporting star driving his own value up

Araújo’s rise has not been built on hype alone. Last season, mainly operating at left-back, he produced seven goals and six assists in 47 matches, impressive output for a defender. He also shone for Uruguay at the World Cup, returning two goals and an assist in only three matches.

This season has brought more of the same. He has stayed in the starting line-up and already has a goal and two assists from three appearances. That level of consistency explains why his market value has surged so sharply, rising from €5.5m when he joined Sporting to €40m after a series of rapid increases.

Maxi Araújo transfer may need patience

From an Arsenal perspective, there is obvious appeal in a dynamic, productive left-sided player who can influence matches in both phases. For Manchester United, the attraction is similarly clear, especially for a squad still seeking reliable athleticism and end product in wide defensive areas.

For now, though, this looks like a story of sustained interest rather than active negotiation. Araújo remains firmly on the agenda, but Sporting hold the stronger hand. Until that changes, ‘nothing new’ may be the most revealing update of all.
