Real Madrid Still Interested In Arsenal Star

Riccardo Calafiori to Real Madrid? Arsenal Hold Firm Over Defender Valued Above €100m

Real Madrid interest in Riccardo Calafiori makes sense. That part is obvious. Elite clubs look for defenders who solve multiple problems at once, and Arsenal have one of them. The issue for Madrid is also obvious, Arsenal do not need to sell, and they have made that crystal clear.

According to the original report from Caught Offside, Arsenal would only consider talks if an offer goes beyond €100 million. That is a big number, but so is the value of a 24-year-old Italy international who can play at centre-back, left-back and step into midfield without looking uncomfortable or forced.

Calafiori has grown quickly since arriving from Bologna in 2024. He suits Mikel Arteta’s game because he gives structure in build-up, aggression out of possession and progression with the ball. Plenty of defenders can fill space. Fewer can actively improve a team’s rhythm. That is where his importance lies.

Madrid have reportedly made contact with people close to the player, but there has been no formal bid. That matters. Admiration is cheap, formal offers are not. Arsenal’s position is strengthened further by a contract running until June 2029, and by the simple fact that the player is not agitating for a move.

Arsenal Transfer Stance Looks Entirely Logical

Arsenal are said to value Calafiori far above his estimated market price of around €65 million. That may sound aggressive, but transfer fees are not built purely on market models. They are shaped by leverage, squad planning and scarcity. A versatile, high-level defender under a long contract is expensive because replacing him would be expensive.

Arteta saw this early, calling Calafiori “a big personality and character, with specific skills which will make us stronger”. That line now looks accurate rather than promotional. Arsenal are protecting a key asset, not inviting a negotiation.

Real Madrid Interest May Stay at Scouting Stage

Madrid can keep watching, and they probably will. Calafiori looks built for the modern top-level game. Still, there is a difference between liking a player and paying what it takes to remove him from a club in a strong position. Right now, Arsenal hold every meaningful card. Unless Madrid decide to make an extraordinary move, this feels like serious interest without immediate consequence.

Our View

This is exactly why there has to be some steel from Arsenal. Too often, big continental names circle and people immediately start talking as if the player is halfway out the door. There is no reason for that here. Calafiori is under contract, he fits the manager, and he is becoming one of the most useful defenders in the squad. Sell him now and the club would be creating a problem for itself.

The price point matters because it sends a message. If Real Madrid want to test Arsenal, then they should have to do it properly. Not with background noise, not with admiration, and not with the usual drip feed of interest designed to unsettle the situation. Pay an elite fee or move on.

There is also a football point here that should not be missed. Players like Calafiori help serious teams compete over a full season because they cover weaknesses before they become crises. Injuries, rotation, tactical tweaks, all of it becomes easier when you have defenders who can play in more than one role at a high level.

Keeping him feels far more important than cashing in. Arsenal have spent years trying to build a side with depth, authority and technical quality. Letting one of the most adaptable pieces go, unless the offer is absurd, would be a step backwards.
