Manchester United Tracking Nico Paz as Como Star Catches Premier League Attention
Manchester United’s season has already drifted into uncomfortable territory, and the 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como only sharpened the focus on where Michael Carrick’s squad is falling short. An early concession set the tone before Como took full control, exposing a United side that has now lost five of 11 matches in all competitions, with only two wins to its name.
Those numbers matter, because they frame why recruitment planning is already coming under scrutiny. United sit 13th in the Premier League after seven games, they are out of the EFL Cup, and the attacking unit has struggled for rhythm and authority. Bruno Fernandes’ dip in output has naturally intensified discussion around creative reinforcements, and one name increasingly doing the rounds is Nico Paz.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, both Manchester United and Chelsea are monitoring the Como playmaker after his rapid rise in Serie A. Paz joined Como from Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 and has grown into one of the division’s most influential attacking players. Last season he posted 13 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances, helping Como secure a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification.
He has carried that momentum into the current campaign. Paz has produced four goals and five assists in his first 10 matches, and his display against United offered a timely reminder of why elite clubs are paying attention. Two goals and one assist against Premier League opposition in a Champions League tie is the sort of performance that quickly shifts a player from admired prospect to active target.
Nico Paz Emerges as Genuine Manchester United Option
United’s interest would make obvious sense on profile alone. Paz is 22, technically refined, productive in the final third and operating with growing authority. He has also shown that he can influence big games, which remains one of the clearest tests for any player being assessed by clubs at United’s level. The question is less about talent and more about deal structure.

That is where Real Madrid remain central. They have a buyback clause of €80m, that mechanism could shape the entire market around Paz, because it offers Madrid a clear and time-sensitive route back into the conversation.
Real Madrid Clause Could Shape Any Transfer Battle
With Paz under contract until 2028, Como are not under immediate pressure to sell, which strengthens their hand if Premier League clubs test the waters.
For United, this feels like a situation to watch closely rather than one nearing resolution. The player’s trajectory is clear, the admiration appears credible, and the market conditions suggest movement next summer is possible. Whether Old Trafford becomes the destination may depend as much on United’s progress on the pitch as their willingness to spend.
Our View
Nico Paz looks exactly the sort of player United should be monitoring, young enough to grow, talented enough to change matches, and already showing he can punish high-level opposition. Watching him dominate a game against United only makes the conversation louder. It is hard not to wonder why the club so often seems to identify these profiles after they have already exploded.
There is a lot to like here. The output is strong, the versatility is useful, and there is a composure to his game that United have badly lacked in too many attacking areas this season. When Bruno Fernandes is below his best, the whole side seems to lose shape and invention. That is why a player like Paz is so intriguing, he looks capable of taking responsibility rather than hiding from it.
The concern is obvious too. If Real Madrid hold a €80 million buy-back clause, they control a huge part of this story. United could do the groundwork, sell the project and still find themselves waiting on Madrid’s decision. That is never ideal.
Still, this is the level of ambition supporters want to see. Identify top young talent early, move decisively and build around players with personality and quality. If United are serious about rebuilding the attack, Paz feels like a name worth following very closely.
