Everton vs Newcastle Predicted Line-Up, Team News and Carabao Cup Prediction
Newcastle United go to Everton in the Carabao Cup with a simple objective, get through and keep the season moving in the right direction. The win at Crystal Palace helped, but one result does not fix everything. The first half in that game was poor, the second half was far more convincing, and that split probably tells you where this Newcastle side is right now.
Matthias Jaissle needs more than flashes. He needs control, repeatability and evidence that his 4-2-3-1 is becoming second nature. A cup tie away at Everton is not glamorous, but it is useful. It can expose the same old issues, or it can show progress.
Newcastle line-up points to strong approach
Jaissle has already made his thinking clear. “Due to the history for the club in that competition, I have the same approach – to play with the best possible line-up. It shows the importance of that competition (that we’re taking 8,000 fans) and we will also be aligned with that and go all in.”
That does not sound like a manager preparing to rotate heavily. It sounds like someone who knows momentum matters and who understands Newcastle cannot afford to treat this as a side issue. Cup runs have value, and right now so does any sign of authority.
The likely shape remains the same, with Hornicek in goal, Dedic, Fabian Schär, Dan Burn and Lewis Hall across the back, then Gonzalez and Joelinton at the base of midfield. Further forward, Anthony Elanga could come back in if fully fit, with Joe Willock and Harvey Barnes supporting Osula.
There are still a few decisions to make. Joelinton and Osula have recently returned from injury, so fitness has to be judged properly. Jacob Ramsey is an option if Jaissle wants fresh legs in midfield. The broad expectation, though, is continuity rather than experimentation.
Everton form offers opening
Everton, managed by David Moyes, have not won in three matches since the international break and have failed to score in recent defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea. That is the good news for Newcastle. The less convenient part is that Everton have still managed three clean sheets in five home games in all competitions this season.
So this probably will not be open or pretty. It may be slow, scrappy and decided by moments. Newcastle should have enough attacking quality to create problems, especially if Elanga plays and stretches an Everton back line that can look short on pace.
Carabao Cup prediction and likely XI
Newcastle need to begin better than they did at Palace. If they drift through the first half again, Everton will fancy it. If they move the ball quickly and show the aggression seen after the break on Sunday, they should stay in the tie long enough to finish the job.
Predicted Newcastle XI: Hornicek, Dedic, Schär, Burn, Hall, Gonzalez, Joelinton, Elanga, Willock, Barnes, Osula..
