Arsenal set for triple injury boost ahead of Liverpool clash

Arsenal Injury News Ahead of Liverpool Clash at Anfield

Arsenal go to Anfield with problems, not excuses. The league meeting with Liverpool was already one of the biggest fixtures of the weekend. Then came the mess in the cup, a 1-1 draw with Fleetwood followed by a penalty shootout exit, and the focus sharpened immediately on availability, injuries and who Mikel Arteta can actually trust to start.

The biggest headache is in wide areas. Max Dowman is suspended after his red card against Fleetwood, Arsenal lost their appeal, and the 16-year-old will now miss three matches. That matters because the squad is already stretched. Noni Madueke is carrying an ankle issue, Bukayo Saka is out with a quad problem, and Christos Tzolis has also been working his way back from a hamstring injury. For Arteta, team selection against Liverpool may come down to who can simply get through training.

Declan Rice Fitness Update Before Liverpool

Declan Rice is one of the names Arsenal need back immediately. He trained earlier in the week, which is encouraging, but he was still left out of the squad for the Fleetwood defeat. Arteta later made it clear this was not straightforward rotation.

“Declan finished with a problem the other day [against Everton], that is why I had to substitute him,” Arteta revealed after the loss to Fleetwood.

That suggests the issue is real, even if it may not be serious. Rice missing only his second game of the season across all competitions tells you two things. First, Arsenal rely on him heavily. Second, they rarely leave him out unless they have to. Training before the Fleetwood game is a positive sign, but until Arteta confirms it, Arsenal will not assume anything. At this stage, Rice still looks like he has a realistic chance of being available at Anfield.

Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke Leave Arsenal Short Out Wide

This is where the real concern sits. Saka’s injury is the one that changes everything. He went down against Bayern Munich with no meaningful contact, clutching his left leg after releasing the ball. Those are usually the moments clubs fear most. Arteta later confirmed it was a quad issue, and the update was not particularly reassuring.

“We have to wait. It will be weeks,” Arteta said before Arsenal’s win over Everton. “I think in a week or 10 days we’re going to have another scan because there’s so much fluid at the moment.

“So the picture is not that clear to give you an exact amount of time. But it looks like it’s going to be weeks.”

That is the key line. “It will be weeks.” Arsenal can dress it up however they want, but for Liverpool this weekend, Saka is out, and for the next run of fixtures he remains a major doubt until the swelling settles and the scan gives a clearer picture. The tentative projection points to December, with Manchester United at home mentioned as a possible return point.

Madueke is less severe, but no less relevant for Sunday. He was not seen in training on Monday and Arteta confirmed the winger suffered an ankle problem against Everton that ruled him out of the Fleetwood trip. With Saka missing and Dowman suspended, Arsenal need Madueke fit. Supporters will wait for the final pre-match update, but right now he remains in that awkward category, possible, though far from guaranteed.

Calafiori and Tzolis Face Late Checks

Riccardo Calafiori is another name Arsenal cannot quite call safe. His absence from the starting side against Everton raised eyebrows, given he had started the previous seven Premier League matches. In reality, after a full 90 minutes against Bayern Munich and with a quick turnaround, a rest made sense. What followed did not help.

Calafiori came on in the second half, then spent much of stoppage time stationed up front, with Madueke dropping back, before heading straight down the tunnel after the final whistle. Arteta explained why.

“Yeah, I wasn’t that mad to change those two from their positions,” Arteta said. “It was because he had a slight issue, we don’t know what it is, it seems to be something very small, but he was cautious about it.”

That sounds minor, but minor issues can still keep players out of matches like this, especially with little recovery time. Arsenal will give him every chance, but he is another late call.

As for Tzolis, his situation has drifted on a bit. He picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty with Greece during the 2-2 draw against the Netherlands. The initial expectation was that he could miss up to three weeks. That window has now passed, which means a return to contention is plausible.

Arteta’s updates have at least been positive. “Tzolis has a muscle injury, and he’s going to be out for a few weeks,” he said earlier. More recently, he added: “Again, doing really well. Yesterday he had another MRI scan to see how the injury is evolving.

“It’s progressing really well. Another one that hopefully we can have back in a few weeks.”

That wording hardly screams certainty for Liverpool, but it does leave the door open.

William Saliba Recovery Timeline Remains Longer Term

The longest-running absence remains William Saliba. He has not played this season because of a back injury aggravated while away with France at the World Cup in the summer. Arsenal avoided surgery, which matters, but the recovery was always going to take months.

There has been progress. Saliba is back working individually on the grass, which is an important step for any player recovering from a back issue. Arteta’s latest words on the defender were encouraging, if still measured.

“Next week, we have another MRI with him to see how the healing process is at the moment,” Arteta said in his latest update on Saliba.

“Every sign so far has been very, very positive. It will be great to have him.”

That is good news for Arsenal in the medium term. It does nothing for this weekend. Saliba is looking at December, and Arsenal still have to navigate major fixtures before then without one of their best defenders.

So that is the state of it. Rice may yet make it. Madueke and Calafiori are genuine doubts. Tzolis is edging closer. Saka and Saliba are out. Dowman is suspended. Arsenal head to Anfield under pressure, short in key areas, and needing clarity quickly. At a place like this, uncertainty tends to get punished.
