Manchester United Predicted XI vs Chelsea as Carrick Searches for Answers
Michael Carrick needs solutions, quickly. Eight games without a win, a miserable start to the Premier League season and a trip to Stamford Bridge is exactly the kind of fixture that exposes every weakness. Right now, Manchester United have plenty of them.
The biggest issue is obvious. Manchester United’s defence looks fragile and Chelsea, under Xabi Alonso, have been ruthless going forward, scoring 26 goals in 11 matches. That is the backdrop for Saturday’s lunchtime game, and it explains why team selection matters more than ever.
Defence Remains Carrick’s Problem Area
There are few genuine options at the back. With no fit left-backs available, Diogo Dalot looks set to continue on the left. It is far from ideal, but necessity usually wins. On the opposite side, Leny Yoro is expected to get the nod again ahead of Noussair Mazraoui, even though Mazraoui is the more natural full-back.
In central defence, Lisandro Martinez is expected to be fit enough to partner Harry Maguire. Senne Lammens should keep his place in goal as Carrick sticks with his current first-choice keeper.
Bruno Fernandes Set for Key Role
Bruno Fernandes remains central to everything good United can produce. It is hoped his injury concern has eased after he was effectively rested in the defeat to Bournemouth. If he is fit, he starts. Simple as that.
His relationship with Carrick also appears stable again after the pair reportedly cleared the air earlier this week. United need their captain available, and they need him sharp.

Attack Offers Few Certainties
Further forward, Benjamin Sesko is out until January, which leaves Carrick with more compromises. Matheus Cunha has drifted out of favour, while Bryan Mbeumo is currently trusted to lead the line. Amad Diallo remains inconsistent, dangerous one week, anonymous the next.
If Cunha does not start, Fernandes could again be pushed wide, with Youri Tielemans operating as the number 10. In midfield, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba appear to be the preferred pairing, though Kobbie Mainoo may return in some capacity.
