Chelsea 2-0 Manchester United: Player Ratings as Rogers Inspires Blues Victory

Chelsea climbed into the Premier League’s top four with a convincing 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, as Morgan Rogers inspired a second-half turnaround that intensified the pressure on Michael Carrick.

Goals from Rogers and Cole Palmer secured three points for Xabi Alonso’s side, while Lisandro Martinez’s dismissal compounded another miserable afternoon for Manchester United.

United have now gone nine matches without victory across all competitions, their longest winless sequence since 1988. Sitting 16th, just one point above the relegation zone, Carrick faces increasingly uncomfortable questions about his team’s direction.

Manchester United Waste First-Half Opportunities

For 45 minutes, Manchester United demonstrated enough attacking ambition to suggest they could arrest their alarming decline.

Amad Diallo squandered two opportunities against Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, while Bruno Fernandes fired over from a promising position. Matheus Cunha also had a close-range header disallowed following a VAR offside review.

Those missed chances ultimately proved expensive.

Chelsea struggled to establish their rhythm before the interval, prompting audible frustration from sections of the Stamford Bridge crowd. Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo provided midfield stability, although the hosts lacked penetration in advanced areas.

Alonso’s side needed greater urgency after the restart, particularly against opponents whose confidence appeared increasingly fragile.

Morgan Rogers Punishes Manchester United Defending

Chelsea’s breakthrough arrived five minutes into the second half, courtesy of a remarkable defensive lapse.

Lavia supplied Rogers, who advanced through the centre of Manchester United’s defence with minimal resistance before delicately lifting his finish beyond Senne Lammens.

The goal represented Rogers’ sixth Premier League strike of the campaign, taking his overall involvement to 10 goals, including four assists.

His combination of movement, composure and attacking intelligence proved decisive throughout the contest.

United’s afternoon deteriorated further when Martinez received two yellow cards within three minutes.

His second booking followed an incident involving Wesley Fofana, with VAR identifying contact to the defender’s face inside the penalty area.

Palmer converted the resulting penalty in the 64th minute, establishing a commanding 2-0 advantage against ten men.

Chelsea Strengthen Top-Four Position as Carrick Faces Scrutiny

Chelsea subsequently controlled proceedings, with Estevao particularly impressive on his first Premier League start of the season.

The Brazilian thought he had extended Chelsea’s lead, although a marginal offside decision denied him.

Valentin Barco also missed an excellent late opportunity, while Bryan Mbeumo struck the crossbar during stoppage time for Manchester United.

For Alonso, the result provided further encouragement regarding Chelsea’s attacking potential and midfield balance.

Carrick faces a considerably more difficult assessment. United’s defensive organisation collapsed following the interval, while their inability to convert first-half opportunities exposed familiar problems.

With three consecutive defeats and relegation concerns growing, Manchester United urgently require improvement.

Chelsea, meanwhile, occupy fourth place and have further evidence of Rogers’ growing importance.
