Man Utd Transfer Latest: Folarin Balogun Offered as January Striker Search Intensifies
Manchester United have been approached over a possible January move for Folarin Balogun, according to TeamTalk, with the Monaco forward emerging as one of several options being explored as Old Trafford plans for the winter market.
The 25-year-old finds himself in an increasingly difficult position in Ligue 1. TeamTalk reports that Balogun is “available ahead of the January transfer window”, and the timing is notable. United are looking closely at centre-forward possibilities, with recruitment staff assessing who can add depth, goals and a different profile in the second half of the season.
Balogun’s recent trajectory explains why his representatives are now active. His proposed summer departure from Monaco broke down, and his minutes have since dried up. He “came close to joining Everton before pulling out of the move after becoming unhappy with questions raised during his medical”, a development that left him stuck in a squad where his role has diminished further.
Balogun Situation Puts Man Utd on Alert
The latest update suggests Monaco are open to a solution. Balogun has been “left out of Monaco’s European squad altogether” and has made “only four substitute appearances in Ligue 1 this season”, while “20-year-old forward Paris Brunner” has moved ahead of him in the pecking order.
That backdrop has triggered movement behind the scenes. TeamTalk states that Balogun’s agents, “led by Jorge Mendes, are already working on potential options for the January window”, and United are among the clubs contacted. More specifically, “Man Utd are among those to have been approached”, with the player’s “availability” now “put to Old Trafford as they assess the market”.

That does not mean a deal is advanced, nor that Balogun is first choice. It does, however, place him firmly in the conversation as United review what is realistically attainable in January.
January Transfer Window Shapes Striker Shortlist
United’s need is clear. TeamTalk says “Man Utd are looking to strengthen their attacking options during the winter window”, and that Balogun is “under consideration as the club weigh up possible solutions”. He joins a wider shortlist that still includes Jean-Philippe Mateta, who “remains on Man Utd’s radar”.
There is competition for attention too. Everton have been contacted again, while Leeds United, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have also been made aware of Balogun’s situation. Juventus have reportedly been approached as well, underlining that his camp are casting the net widely in search of the right outcome.
What stands out here is opportunity. Monaco’s “willingness to allow the striker to leave in January” opens the door for clubs seeking a market chance, especially one involving a player with Premier League pedigree, international experience and a point to prove.
Our View
This is exactly the kind of name that makes sense to examine, even if caution has to come with it. United need options up front, and there is logic in looking at a striker who is available, motivated and clearly eager to reset his career quickly. Balogun has ability, pace and that sharp penalty-box instinct that can reappear once confidence returns.
At the same time, the warning signs are obvious. If Monaco are prepared to let him go after such limited involvement, United have to be certain they are buying into a temporary dip rather than a deeper issue. Four substitute appearances and no European squad role is a thin platform from which to make a major call.
The encouraging part is that this sounds like a market check rather than a panic move. That is how it should be. United should assess the numbers, the structure of any deal and whether Balogun’s style genuinely suits what is needed. A loan, or a deal weighted in the club’s favour, would feel far more sensible than a big commitment.
There is still something compelling about a striker with a point to prove arriving in January. If the cost is right and the background checks are strong, this is one worth taking seriously. It may not be the headline option, but smart recruitment often starts there.
