Brighton Transfer Interest Grows in El Mala Brothers as Cologne Scouting Continues
Brighton’s long-standing pursuit of the El Mala brothers is gathering attention again, with TeamTalk reporting that the club remain keen on a rare double move for Cologne pair Said El Mala and Malek El Mala.
According to TeamTalk, Brighton’s interest has not faded despite an unsuccessful attempt to advance the situation previously, and the possibility of returning next summer is very much alive. The key detail in this developing Brighton transfer story is that Said El Mala is viewed as the headline target, while brother Malek El Mala could form part of the same package.
Brighton scouting mission remains active
The report states that “Brighton continue to be interested in the El Mala brothers at Cologne, with a renewed push for a double signing possible next summer”. That line alone says plenty. This is not a fleeting enquiry, nor a market check carried out in passing. It points to sustained tracking and a clear appreciation of the family dynamic around the two players.
Said El Mala, 20, has emerged quickly. TeamTalk describes him as “the primary target” and notes that “the German winger has established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young talents after a rapid rise from the third tier”. His output in 2025/26 strengthens that case, with “an impressive 13 goals and five assists across all competitions”.
Malek El Mala, 21, has had a quieter path so far, featuring mainly for Cologne’s reserves, yet Brighton’s willingness to include him is central to the appeal of any potential agreement.

Double deal could give Seagulls edge
There is an important strategic point in this report. TeamTalk says, “The Seagulls were among the few clubs prepared to sign both players together.” That matters because previous interest from Brentford, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig focused heavily on Said alone.
Brighton’s approach appears more tailored. “That willingness was viewed as a potential advantage,” the report adds, particularly as the brothers “have spoken openly about their strong bond.” In a market where marginal gains shape recruitment, that personal understanding can influence a transfer as much as finances or development plans.
Cologne stance and 2027 timeline
For now, Cologne are in control. TeamTalk notes the German side “held firm on their valuation”, while Said’s contract “running until 2031” leaves little immediate pressure to sell. That explains why “a January move, however, is not currently under consideration.”
Still, Brighton are keeping close tabs. “Scouts continue to watch their progress, particularly Said’s, and a fresh approach in the summer of 2027 has not been ruled out.” It feels like a situation being managed patiently rather than aggressively, which aligns with Brighton’s broader transfer planning.
Our View
This has the feel of a Brighton move that makes sense on several levels. The club have built a reputation for spotting attacking talent before the wider market fully catches up, and Said El Mala sounds exactly like the kind of player who could thrive with the coaching, patience and pathway available on the south coast. Thirteen goals and five assists at his age, with that rise behind him already, is the sort of profile that naturally grabs attention.
What makes this one especially interesting is the willingness to look at the bigger picture. If bringing in Malek El Mala helps unlock a deal for Said, then that feels smart rather than sentimental. Squad-building does not happen in a vacuum, and understanding family dynamics can be part of making good decisions. Brighton have often succeeded by thinking differently, and this looks another example of that.
There will be obvious questions over whether Cologne soften their stance and whether other clubs step up again for Said on his own. Even so, Brighton seem to have identified a route that others have not fully embraced. If the door opens next summer, there is every reason to believe the groundwork already being done could put the club in a very strong position.
