Everton Predicted XI vs Coventry as David Moyes Weighs Two Changes
Everton go into Friday night against Coventry City with momentum, and that matters. Two wins over Newcastle United, one in the Carabao Cup and one in the Premier League, have shifted the mood and given David Moyes a selection problem he will welcome. Results do that. They make rotation look like strength rather than compromise.
This is the first match of game week 10, played before the international break, and Everton have a clear chance to keep moving. Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, have shown enough in recent weeks to suggest they are not turning up simply to make up the numbers. Three wins in five league matches says they have some fight. It also says Everton cannot afford to get sloppy.
Defensive tweak in Everton predicted XI
Jordan Pickford should keep his place. He was excellent against Newcastle and remains the obvious starter. In front of him, Vitalii Mykolenko is expected to continue at left-back after another efficient display that drew less attention than it deserved.
At centre-back, James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite look set to stay together. Branthwaite went off late at St James’ Park, though the concern appears minimal after Moyes indicated it was only cramp. If he is fit enough, he plays. Simple as that.

The possible defensive change is on the right. Jake O’Brien was outstanding on Monday and has become a dependable option in a role that does not fully belong to him. Still, this fixture may call for a different profile. Ainsley Maitland-Niles offers more thrust in possession and a more natural outlet down that side. Against a Coventry team Everton will expect to pin back for spells, that extra attacking intent could be useful. He has previously been described as a “workaholic”, and that kind of industry fits what Moyes usually wants from his full-backs.
Midfield options for David Moyes
In midfield, there is little reason to overcomplicate it. James Garner and Harrison Armstrong are expected to continue as the central pair. Hayden Hackney remains an option, though the current balance seems to suit Moyes well enough. Garner gives control, Armstrong brings energy, and Everton have looked more stable with the two together.
Further forward, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall should start again after standing out in the win over Newcastle. He has added urgency and clarity in the final third, which has not always been present in Everton’s attacking play.
Attack selection against Coventry City
Tyrique George also did his chances no harm with his part in the winning goal at St James’ Park, so he is likely to keep his place on the left. On the opposite flank, Brennan Johnson may come in for Merlin Rohl. Rohl brought running power and honest work, but Friday’s game could demand a little more direct threat and penetration.
There is also the question of Jack Grealish, though uncertainty remains after he was not considered match fit for the Newcastle game following a breach of club discipline rules. Until that changes, it is difficult to build the team around him.
Up front, Thierno Barry picks himself. Eight goals this season tells its own story. Strikers live on output, and right now he is giving Everton plenty of it.
