EPLIndex Premier League Statistical Team Of The Week: Round 8

The Premier League was back after an International Break and what a cracking way to start things of! Welcome to our weekly edition of EPLIndex’s Statistical Team of the Week!

There were 30 goals scored this weekend with 3 of the goals being OWN GOALS !! With such a high goal count, it’s obvious that the number of clean sheets is gonna be low. Just 3 goal keepers managed to keep a clean sheet this weekend. I’ve opted for a 4-4-2 formation and the reasons are below!

John Ruddy [Clean Sheet + Saves]

A brilliant display by the Norwich City shot-stopper ensured that Norwich got to sleek victory over the Gunners. Arsenal players tried all sorts of things to get the ball past Ruddy into the net but failed to do it even once.

Riise [Clean Sheet + Assist]

The most creative player on the pitch during the Fulham vs Aston Villa match deserves a mention in the Team of the Week doesn’t he? A brilliant overall performance by this defender ensured that Fulham ended the match with the valuable 3 points in their bags.

Gary Cahill [Goal + Performance]

Bought to Chelsea by AVB but caps a blistering volley followed by some sensational defending made sure that Chelsea did not miss John Terry even for a minute in their win vs AVB”s Tottenham.

Glen Johnson [Clean Sheet + Creativity + Attempts]

Glen Johnson created chances three chances, attempted six shots, attempted 3 dribbles and kept a clean sheet, which are rarities for Liverpool nowadays. His defensive performances have also improved and although he’s played a left back role for Liverpool at the moment we’ve dropped him into the right back spot in the team.

Martin Skrtel [Clean Sheet + Performance]

And making his 1st app in my Team of the Week – Martin Skrtel – showed why he was Liverpool’s best defender last season with a solid defensive performance vs Reading this weekend.

Juan Mata [2 Goals + 1 Assist]

Another AVB signing who scored to help Chelsea equalize, grab the lead and assisted the final goal to ensure that The Blues’ left White Hart Lane with all the 3 points.

Guzman [2 Assists]

A first appearance in the EPLIndex Team of the Week. Guzman achieved a 90% pass accuracy and also assisted both of Swansea’s goals (1 each from Open Play and Set Play) as he helped the Swans back to winning ways.

Danny Welbeck [Goal + Assist]

An all-round performance as Welbeck played as a left-sided forward and scored, assisted and kept the ball very well. His pass accuracy was at an impressive 95% & also attempted the most shots on goal in the game. A well deserved place in the side.

Mark Noble [2 Goals + Passing]

A Free Kick that somehow crept into the net and a penalty conversion rounded off Mark Noble’s commendable performance vs Southampton. He managed the most number of touches by a West Ham player and also had the most passes attempted in the match!

Wayne Rooney [2 Goals + Assist]

Started the match off in a bad way by scoring an OWN GOAL but then managed to level things up within minutes at the other end. Finished the match with another goal and also assisting RvP’s goal. Can we say the Rooney ended the match with a Hat-Trick and a assist? Ok maybe not!

Edin Dzeko [2 goal + Super Sub]

Down to 10 men and trailing by 1-0, Mancini turned towards his bench and asked Dzeko to go on. Little did he know that he was actually gonna turn the match around in a sensational style. 2 goals in 11 min’s made sure that Manchester City kept the pressure on Chelsea and also ensured that they are level on points with United.

One’s who just missed out:

Mark Schwarzer – A Clean Sheet was just not enough for the Fulham shot-stopper to get into my Team of the Week as Ruddy was way better than the Australian at the goal for Norwich City.

Mikel Arteta – Ended up on the losing side but he attempted a 106 passes, (you read that right 106 passes) while the entire Norwich City team (including substitutes) attempted just 240!!

Raheem Sterling – Would have been in the side had Mata & Welbeck not scored and assisted goals. Sterling’s performances this season have been brilliant and he’ll surely make this team at some point in the season.

Robin Van Persie – A goal and an assist always get’s a player into my team but this time Rooney and Dzeko did better than just a goal and an assist to keep out RvP from the team.

Michu – Scored another goal to become joint top scorer and also won 80% of his aerial duels as Michu helped Swansea to their first win in six league games.

Agree with the team? Either way – please leave a comment below or just vote and share! See you next week.
