Norwich First XI, Who Wins a Shirt for Wigan?

This strange figure of eight represents our first team squad for the new season, bask in its magnificence. Never in my time as a Norwich fan can I remember so many good players competing for places in a City side.

I genuinely cannot pick the starting line-up for tomorrows game, the two main issues affecting selection at the moment are the ‘knocks’ suffered by Andrew Crofts and Russell Martin, both of whom I believe would start if 100% fit. If Crofts doesn’t start I believe we will need to play Bradley Johnson from the start for his physicality. Kyle Naughton could ably deputise for Russell Martin if needs be.

Up front I believe Holt will be partnered by Morison, this may be slightly unfair on Simeon Jackson but he will probably get his chance to terrorise a tiring Wigan defence with his pace later on in the game.

Even without the Crofts injury dilemma the midfield has me completely baffled. We have a depth of different options so Lambert will be picking the players he thinks are most suited to gain us points against Wigan. This may seem obvious, but it isn’t always a case of lining up our most talented eleven.

That said I have had a go.

My unlucky man to miss out is Andrew Surman. Again though the injuries may change this. If Naughton starts ahead of Russel Martin then he may provide enough width to allow us to leave Bennett simmering on the bench in anticipation of his competitive bow. I would then bring Surman in on the left of the diamond and switch Crofts or Johnson to the right. I can’t believe I’m in a position to leave Surman out but that simply is the nature of this crazy beast we call the Premier League.

Only 25 hours until I’m proven wrong.
