Stats: Most Creative Players in 2012-13 Premier League | Chances, Assists & Clear-Cut Chances

There’s only one week left for this Premier League season and we wanted to share some statistics using our Stats Centre to show you which players have been the most creative this season. Below you’ll see graphics from our stats centre to show which players are topping the creativity charts for chances created, clear-cut chances created, goal assists and second assists.

Chances Created / Key Passes

Everton’s Leighton Baines has been at the top of this list since the start of the season and he’ll definitely end the season being the most creative player this season. Will Moyes take him to Manchester United? We’ll have to wait and see however Baines should become England’s 1st choice left back next season.

Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard has had a resurgent season creating 94 chances to back up his nine goals. David Silva has had a very creative second half of the season to come into second place whilst Juan Mata has a chance of overtaking both Gerrard and Cazorla in the last game. Cazorla had an amazing game against Wigan creating six chances and grabbing four assists. If he repeats that feat against Newcastle he’ll have created over 100 chances for Arsenal in his first season.

Total Chances Created 2013

Clear-cut Chance or Big Chance

This statistic shows which players have created the clearest opportunities for their players to score. Leighton Baines is once again at the top with Nasri, Suarez, Cazorla & Mata making up the top five.

The Second Assist

[quote]

A pass/cross that is instrumental in creating a goal-scoring opportunity, for example a corner or free-kick to a player who then assists an attempt, a chance-creating through ball or cross into a dangerous position.

A very interesting statistic which should come to the fore more next season. Jack Wilshere has played the pass that creates a goal-scoring opportunity the most this season. For an example of this image Wilshere playing a defence splitting pass for Walcott who then squares the ball for his teammate to tap in. Walcott would get the Assist and Wilshere the Second Assist.

Robin Van Persie created the 2nd highest of these whilst Morrison, Mata, Walters, Giroud, Oscar, Coutinho, Snodgrass, Riether, Walcott, Silva and Moses all created two second assists (only top 5 shown below as list sorted by First Name initial!).

Most 2nd Goal Assists Premier League

Goal Assists

Finally the goal assist statistics. It’s Chelsea’s wizards that have created the most goals this season – Juan Mata and Eden Hazard. Two Arsenal players also appear in the table Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla both impressing whilst Wayne Rooney also makes the Top 5.

Juan Mata appears in every Top 5 list above indicating that he’s the only all round creative player in the Premier League. Players like Mata don’t get the appreciation they deserve and he was definitely one of the contenders for the Player of the Year.

Leighton Baines is the set-piece king this season. There’s no one better in the league to create chances from dead-ball situations. Everton must be fearing a raid from David Moyes when he joins Manchester United on July 1st as he’s certainly been their stand-out player this season.

So those were the most creative players in the Premier League this season! With one week to go there shouldn’t be many changes next week but this may come in handy when researching your fantasy league players for next season – who knows we may even start a fantasy league game based on Opta Stats. Stay tuned!
