Jose Mourinho Returns Home to Chelsea | Premier League Record

Mourinho

The return of the Special One! Ron Gourlay, Chelsea Chief Executive, has today confirmed that Jose Mourinho will be the next Chelsea manager on a 4-year deal. Football fans will be happily renewing their Sky Sports package knowing that they will be in for some entertainment now that the “Special One” is back.

Now that the worst kept secret in football is official, football fans can begin to reflect on his past achievements, with and away from Chelsea, and look forward on to what might be expected from him in the coming seasons.

Porto: 2002 – 2004Champions League Final - AS Monaco v FC Porto

Primeira Liga – 2

Champions League – 1

UEFA Cup – 1

Chelsea: 2004 – 2007Mourinho Chelsea

League Cup 2

Inter Milan: 2008 – 2010Mourinho Inter

Serie A – 2

Champions League – 1

Italian Cup – 1

Real Madrid: 2010 – 2013Mourinho Madrid

La Liga – 1

Copa Del Rey – 1

Therefore, in 10 full seasons he has won 15 major trophies (between 2007 and 2008 he spent half of the season with Chelsea and half of the season unemployed). Given that he has achieved this in four different countries with four separate teams, this is even more impressive.

In the Premier league while he was with Chelsea, he played 120 games, won 85 of them, drew 25 and lost only 10. This gave him a win percentage of 71% in the league. He is also yet to lose a home game in the Premier League in 60 games, having won 46 of those.

Whilst in England he won the Premier League Manager of the Month 3 times and the Premier League Manager of the Year twice (2005, 2006). He has also been the UEFA Manager of the year on two occasions (2003, 2004).

Ron Gourlay said upon his appointment:
It is our aim to keep the club moving forward to achieve greater success in the future and Jose is our number one choice as we believe he is the right manager to do just that. He was and remains a hugely popular figure at the club and everyone here looks forward to working with him again.
Indeed, this season has been the only one in which he has not won anything, and he has himself described it has his worst ever year in management. Chelsea fans will be hoping that this will do nothing but motivate him and reinvigorate his hunger for success at at Chelsea. Although instant success is somewhat his speciality, many suspect that the Chelsea board, and most importantly the owner, are prepared to given him time to mould success and are finally looking for stability.

Rui Faria, Silvino Louro and Jose Morais are set to join him at Chelsea as assistant first-team coaches, and he will officially address the press for the first time on June the 10th, a week from now.
