Simon Mignolet signs for Liverpool FC | Mignolet Stats

Liverpool Football Club have confirmed the signing of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland. The Liverpool Echo had earlier reported that Mignolet would cost Liverpool an initial £9m with a further £1m in performance related bonuses. Mignolet joins after an excellent 12/13 season in which he saved 73% of shots on target faced, 68% of shots faced from within the box and 45% of clear-cut chances conceded by Sunderland.

All of these figures were better than Liverpool’s current number one keeper Pepe Reina. Yes playing for Sunderland means Mignolet will face more attempts however the stats can’t be ignored – Liverpool FC have bought a very good goalkeeper. In 90 Premier League appearances Simon Mignolet has kept 30 clean-sheets.

Simon Mignolet becomes the first Belgian to play for Liverpool FC. It’s about time too – with the Belgian national team on the up the Belgians are taking over the Premier League – as our writer Pete Sharland wrote about at the end of last season: Belgians taking over the Premier League.
