Chelsea edged out Aston Villa in a tight affair at Stamford Bridge last night. Aston Villa fans will be pleased with the performance from their side as they caused Chelsea some headaches in the second half and were very close to snatching a point when Cech produced an excellent save to main Chelsea’s lead. Chelsea went ahead with an own goal from Luna and Benteke levelled just before half time with an expert finish. This was Benteke’s third goal in two games and he will be looking to add to this tally on Saturday against Liverpool.
Chelsea’s winner came from a brilliant free kick from Frank Lampard which found the head of Branislav Ivanovic. Whilst Chelsea weren’t at their best, largely down to Mata not creating a single chance in the game, they did enough to go top of the Premier League. It was Juan Mata’s first game back this season and it was probably the best game to play in and regain some fitness as there aren’t many bigger games than the next two. Chelsea visit Manchester United on Bank Holiday Monday and then face a repeat of their glorious Champions League final of two years ago against Bayern Munich. However this game also brings the Mourinho Vs Guardiola match.
