Chelsea News: Mourinho scoffs at Torres 25 goal target

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has today questioned whether striker Fernando Torres still retains the killer instinct required to score upwards of 25 goals this season.

Since his record £50 million pound move to Chelsea, Torres has struggled to reproduce the form that made him one of the World’s most feared frontmen.

In fact in nearly three years at Chelsea Torres has only managed 17 league goals. Compare that to his final full season at Anfield in 2009-10 where he racked up 18 goals in only 20 league appearances. Torres goals during 2009-10 season

Although 2012-13 was his best year in a Chelsea shirt you will see that he only managed 8 goals in 28 league games, a far cry from his Liverpool days. Torres goals at Chelsea 2012-13

It’s not only Torres who is struggling for goals, Chelsea’s other two front men are struggling to hit the back of the net this season and Mourinho was quoted as saying “We are not saying 25 or 30 because our strikers are not these kind of killers, but two goals for each one of them is too short,” he said after the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

“They have to come – and they will – for different numbers.”

Mourinho has said that he has no plans to reinforce the striking area during the up coming January transfer window but if all three strikers continue to struggle then he may well change his mind.
