Norwich v Manchester United Preview | Facts, Team News & Key Men

The Canaries welcome the Red Devils to Carrow Road for what is now a vital game for the men in Yellow.

Chris Hughton’s men are in a rotten run of form right now with only 1 win in the last 5 games. They are also without a home win since the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on 30th November 2013.

David Moyes’ men travel to Carrow Road on the back of a 3-2 victory away at Hull City and are on a run of 3 consecutive wins in the Barclays Premier League. In all of those wins they have managed to score 3 goals.

Norwich Vs Manchester United

Interesting Facts

  • Norwich City have beaten Manchester United on 2 of the last 3 times they have played each other at Carrow Road in the league.
  • Manchester United ran out easy 4-0 winners when the teams met earlier this season in the League Cup.
  • Norwich have only lost 4 of their 18 home games played at Carrow Road during 2013
  • United have done better on the road than at Old Trafford season. They have earned 17 points from nine away games, and 14 from their nine home games.

Team News

Norwich City Captain Jonny Howson faces a late fitness test on the back injury that has kept him out for the last 2 matches. Definitely out are Elliot Bennet (knee) Anthony Pilkington (Hamstring) and Alexander Tettey (Ankle). Central defender Michael Turner picked up a 5th yellow card in the Boxing Day defeat and misses out through suspension.

Manchester United have a doubt over defender Rafael who limped out of the Boxing Day win at Hull. Definitely missing will be long term injury victims Phil Jones (Knee), Nani (Hamstring), Robin Van Persie (Hip/Thigh) and Marouane Fellaini (wrist). Antonio Valencia misses out through suspension following a red card against Hull City.

Key Men

Screen Shot 2013-12-27 at 12.25.59Gary Hooper

After a slow start to his Norwich City career due to injury, Gary Hooper has come alive in recent games. He has hit the target in Norwich’s last 4 home games and has got 4 of the teams last 6 league goals.

He is Norwich’s top goal scorer in all competitions with 7  and in a team that creates less chances than many in the league, Hooper has an impressive Shooting Accuracy percentage of 65%.

If Norwich are to keep themselves away from the bottom 3 and move towards the safety of mid-table then Norwich City fans will hope to see Hooper celebrating yet more goals at Carrow Road.

Wayne Rooney is having a tremendous season so far. With his strike partner Robin Van Persie missing plenty of games so far through injury, it has fallen to Rooney to carry the Manchester United attack so far.

Will him creating 9 goals in the Barclays Premier League and scoring 9 times also then it’s clear to see that he is the main attacking threat.

Moyes will want to see more players joining the party if United are to close the gap on the teams above them however.

Rooney scores a goal every 152 minutes so far this season and creates a chance every 36 minutes.

Match Prediction

Norwich City have an excellent home record in general in 2013 and they have managed to come out on top in recent league matches between themselves and Manchester United at Carrow Road. Manchester United head into the game looking for a season’s best 4 league wins in a row and are scoring plenty of goals along the way.

Norwich will be desperate for the points and I predict a score draw, 2-2.
