Is Matic ready to return to the Bridge?

Chelsea could be ready to bring former player Nemanja Matic back to the Bridge.

According to reports in Portugal, Chelsea are ready to re-sign former Blue Nemanja Matic from Benfica for a fee believed to be around £20 million pounds.

Matic, who was part of the Chelsea squad back in 2011 made only 2 appearances in 2 years at the Bridge.

He was part of the deal that saw David Luiz move to Chelsea from Benfica in the same January Transfer Window that saw Fernando Torres also join Chelsea.

The 25 year old Matic has made 9 appearances for Serbia and has been a huge success in his time in Portugal.

It had been reported that Matic had a £37 million pound buy out clause in his current contract so it would appear that Chelsea will get Matic at a knocked down price.

This would be an excellent signing for Chelsea in footballing terms, Matic is one of Europe’s premier defensive midfielders and with Frank Lampard coming to the end of his career and Michael Essien and Jon Obi-Mikel both struggling to make an impression on the first X1 then it is an area that needed upgrading.

It doesn’t say much for Chelsea that they are having to pay over £20 million to get a player back to the club who was there just 3 years ago but then Chelsea never do things the easy way, especially in the transfer market.
