No Liverpool return for Reina

Napoli’s on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has said that he see’s no future for himself at the Premier League Club.

Speaking ahead of Napoli’s Europa League tie against Swansea City Reina has confirmed that he is very happy in Italy and does not expect to be at Anfield come the start of the 2014-15 season.

Reina, who has been linked with numerous clubs including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid recently has not ruled out making his loan spell with Napoli a more permanent arrangement, saying “I’m very happy here and my family’s happy too,” he told Piuenne television. “I’ll be here right to the end, but not even I know what will happen after.

“I’m here now, but I’ve got to return to Liverpool, although it’s unlikely I’ll stay there.”

He went on to say “Benitez was the most important figure in me arriving here. He convinced me to join this ambitious project at a great club.

“Obviously I also wanted to get to know a different league while it was Liverpool who took the first step by not wanting me anymore because they were placing their faith in a younger goalkeeper.”

Initially reds fans were sad to see the Spanish stopper leave Anfield but Simon Mignolet has impressed with a series of fine performances since stepping for Reina this season.
