Ozil warned over World Cup place

Arsenal star attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has been warned that his place in Germany’s 2014 World Cup squad is under threat.

Speaking ahead of Germany’s next friendly game, manager Joachim Loew has put the £42.5 million pound man on a warning by saying “We need the best players currently available at the World Cup, and not theoretically the best

“I’ve told the players: The clock is ticking. And only ones who hear it will have a fighting chance.

“This is an appeal to all and a wake up call to many to work on their training, their routine, and their professionalism as now is the optimal time [to work on those things] before the tournament.”

Ozil, who has been suffering for form since missing a penalty in the 2-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on the 19th February, is also running out of supporters off the pitch.

German legend Lothar Mattahaus has called for Toni Kroos to take Ozil’s place in the German first X1, saying “If Ozil is at his best, he can help, but the recent performances have raised doubts. If I compare him to those in Bayern’s midfield, I think I’d rather have someone like Toni Kroos in the side than Ozil.”

Both Arsenal and Germany need Ozil back to form quickly. Since his drop off, Arsenal have dropped out of the race for the Premier League title and their only hope for silverware this season would now appear to be the FA Cup.
