Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure believes he does not receive the praise he deserves following his standout performances in the Premier League. As a part of City’s dominating midfield alongside Brazilian Fernandinho, Toure was today shortlisted for the Player of the Year award alongside Liverpool trio Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, Chelsea starlet Eden Hazard, and Southampton’s Adam Lallana.
“To be honest, proper recognition has only come from the fans.
“I don’t want to be hard and I don’t want to be negative, but I want to be honest. If we play well and we don’t have the recognition from the media, we are not going to be where we want to be”
Coming on the eve of being named on the shortlist for the POTY Award, and more than likely to be named in the Team of the Year, some are taken aback by the City midfielder’s claims. However, as racism is a major talking point in the football world at the moment, Toure’s comments will be met with various opinions as the Premier League season comes to a climax.
