Pressure is all on Chelsea: Rodgers

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes the pressure is all on his former employers Chelsea ahead of the title-deciding clash this afternoon. Rodgers’ Reds are top of the Premier League and need 7 points from 3 games to claim their first league title in 24 years, and their first in the Premier League. Should Liverpool win today, it will also end the title hopes of Chelsea, with Mourinho keeping one eye on the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

“Everyone talks about pressure but that is Manchester City or Chelsea – when you spend that sort of money and expect to win the league.

“I don’t think there is pressure on ourselves, only what we have from within. Look at Tottenham … [when] you spend over £100m you’d expect to be challenging for the league.

“People talk about pressure but it’s absolutely wonderful.”

Liverpool accomplished their preliminary target by qualifying for the Champions League last weekend with victory over Norwich City, the first time they have done so since the 2009/09 season. Rodgers has taken Liverpool fans on an unprecedented journey in only his second season in charge, but should they lose today they open the door for both Manchester City and Chelsea to climb back into the race, with Liverpool facing a tough away game at Tony Pulis’ Crystal Palace the following week.
