Top 5 Signings of the 13-14 EPL Season | Ozil, Schurrle, Eriksen, Bony & Fernandinho

It has been a year of consistent glory for the Premier League this season. With the Premier league becoming the most watched league in the world according to stats, the battle at the top, as well at the bottom of the league is heightening this claim. Lots of money was spent last summer by the Premier league sides and as a result focus was again shifted onto the price-tags rather than the names coming on.

5 Best Signings

Here are the 5 best signings, in my opinion, this season:

Christian Eriksen (Tottenham):

While so many signings back-lashed for the North London side, it is their one of cost-effective signings that has made our list. Along with Emanuel Adebayor, the Danish international is one of stand-out players for the club. It is not always easy to fit into a new club but the former Liverpool target has had his name sung around the corners of White Hart Lane. He has scored 7 and assisted 8 for the Londoners and kept them in contention for a top four spot amid an un-expected season. Above all, he has been the only signing which has PAID off for the North London side this season.

Christian Eriksen has surpassed the likes of Yaya Toure and Eden Hazard by claiming 8 assists this season for Tottenham

Wilfred Bony (Swansea):

The Ivorian is one of the most under-rated player in the Premier League this season. Having already scored 13 goals for the Swans  in 33 matches, he has been a major reason of Swansea avoided relegation this season. Swansea’s former manager Michael Laudrup signed him for a club record fee of £12 million pounds and since then the Ivorian has justified his price tag by being the saviour for the Welsh side. The striker has managed a 55% clear cut chance conversion rate with a 38% conversion rate whenever he hits the target up front.

Bony Stats

Fernandinho (Manchester City):

When Fernandinho joined Manchester City for £30 million in the summer, all eyes were on him as he was destined to live in the shadow of fellow player and club great Yaya Toure. However, as it turns out, the Brazilian has been a star player for the awaiting Champions this season and has been the image of him in a short space of time. In the absence of the out of form Silva, Fernandinho has proven to be the match maker for the Citizens, as he has managed 5 goals playing in a defensive midfield role. Moreover, out of all the passes he has delivered this season, 34% of them have been aimed forward. Here is his comparison with some of the other defensive midfielders in the league.

Fernandinho Stats

Andre Schurrle (Chelsea):

Early on in last summer, the German’s arrival at Stamford Bridge was not too glamorised as he was destined to be another addition in the already fully stocked Chelsea midfield. However, blame it on Mourinho’s tactics or not, the midfielder has played a more attacking role and has since proved to be the best striking option the Blues have had this season. Having started just 14 matches for them, the German has scored 7 goals for the Blues and the fact that he has played 90 minutes just three times this season makes his role more attractive for the fans.

Mesut Ozil (Arsenal):

Although his form hit a low at the end of season, his role as a play maker for Arsenal cannot be over-looked. He terrorised defences in the final third of the pitch. He was a major part of the Arsenal side that were blowing teams away for fun in this season’s opening 18 matches. His impact on the team intensifies by the fact that Arsenal have lost just one match in which the German has either assisted or scored this season.

Despite starting just 24 matches for the Gunners, Mesut Ozil has been the most creative player for them this season.
