Giroud Expects Competition Next Season

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is expecting new competition next season as Arsene Wenger looks to add depth to the centre-forward position. Yaya Sanogo and Nicklas Bendtner did not offer a substantial enough threat for the Frenchman, and fans felt it was a severe weakness to their squad as they finished 4th place, despite being top of the league longer than any other team.

“I can tell you Arsenal will add a striker to the team.

“We need another striker. Great clubs have several good strikers, who compete with each other.”

Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott have the ability to play through the middle (the English winger has expressed his desire to play there quite often), but their manager usually positions them on the flanks. Giroud is currently away with the French National Team ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but will hope that whoever Wenger signs this summer will help push him onto another level with healthy competition.
