Courtois Will Return To Chelsea

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has stated that Belgian international goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, will return to Stamford Bridge following the World Cup. The 22-year old has been at Atletico Madrid the previous three seasons, and helped them to their first La Liga title since 1996.

“When the World Cup is over, Courtois will come straight back to Stamford Bridge – end of story,” said the Portuguese coach.

Should Courtois be brought back permanently it will no doubt raise question marks over the future of Petr Cech. Cech has been Chelsea’s first choice keeper since 2004, and is still regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in world football. The young Belgian native will eiter have to dislodge Cech, or face life on the bench. Neither will be happy with that role, and whether they can exist within the same squad remains to be seen.

Of course, Chelsea may yet sell the promising Courtois, or in fact Cech. It will be a saga to keep an eye on as the transfer window unfolds.
