Best Bets For The Rest Of The World Cup 2014

The World Cup is well underway now and we are almost at the knockout rounds. Teams have over-performed, teams have under-performed, and if you are a  you’ll be interested in the best bets for the rest of the tournament.

Best Tips

In the outright betting there have been many changes thanks to Spain’s early elimination. Despite a strong feeling the World Cup would be won by a South American team before hand, the most likely contenders Brazil and Argentina have actually been very disappointing so far. Despite both sides progressing from the group stage and Spain’s early elimination neither side has shortened in the betting with Brazil still 3/1 and Argentina available at 4/1.

Instead it has been the Europeans that have impressed. Germany were the most fancied European team going in to the tournament and they are now as short as 7/2 to win it whilst Holland and France have perhaps been the surprise packages so far and they are down to 9/1 and 8/1 respectively. Whether or not France deserve to be a shorter price than Holland is open to debate though, Holland got maximum points in a group that many thought they’d struggle in whereas France were very fortunate with the draw.

At the time of writing Neymar heads the scoring charts with 4 goals and he is now the favourite once again in the top scorer betting at 5/2 (6/4 with one bookies). The likes of Germany and France play again before Brazil are next in action and they have Thomas Muller and Karim Benzema both on 3 goals. If either player scores the odds on Neymar will lengthen so if you fancy a bet on Brazil’s star, wait until all the group games have finished.

Muller and Benzema are both 5/1 shots ahead of their third matches but don’t write off Lionel Messi who still looks a decent bet at 7/1. Argentina may not have played that well yet but he’s still got 2 goals in 2 games and he faces Nigeria next in the group stage. Argentina then get a relatively easy route to the semi final with a second round match against Switzerland (conceded 5 against France) or Ecuador (were beaten by Switzerland). Then the most likely Quarter Final would be against Belgium who have looked very average so far.

And finally with the knockout games almost here how about a bet on the total penalty shootouts? There have only been 7 penalty shootouts in total at the last 3 World Cups so the best bets should be 2 which is 3/1 or 3 which is 10/3.
